LAHORE: Sports Board Punjab contingent wrapped up 4th Inter-Provincial Games Peshawar with a massive aggregate of 139 medals that include 65 gold, 44 silver and 30 bronze medals.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finished second with 37 gold medals and an aggregate of 120 medals followed by Sindh (73 medals including 17 gold, 16 silver and 40 bronze medals) on the last day of sports extravaganza at Peshawar.
Sports Board Punjab archery teams dominated the contest and seized five gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal. Mubashir and Sadia clinched men’s and women’s singles archery gold medals in their respective events.
In men’s team event, Mubashir, Rana Amjad and Hafiz Asim emerged winners whereas Sadia, Saima and Fazala combined to earn gold in women’s team event. In mixed event, Mubashir and Sadia gave Punjab its 5th gold medal in archery event.
Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada, in a statement on Tuesday appreciated the dominating performance of Punjab contingent. “Punjab athletes lived upto expectations through their marvelous performance in the grand event”.
Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada asked the Punjab contingent to maintain their performance in the remaining events and won more medals for their respective teams.
Sports Board Punjab hockey team defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 8-2 in the final and bagged gold medal quite comfortably. Similarly, SBP outplayed the same opponents in the basketball title clash by a wide margin of 67-53. In squash event, Punjab’s Israr Ahmed demonstrated wonderful game and captured gold medal without much trouble. SBP also bagged three silver and one bronze in squash competition.
Earlier, on second day, Punjab handball team thrashed Balochistan by 25-15 in the final and won gold medal. In weightlifting championship, SBP team
added three more gold medals on Tuesday thus sweeping the event by winning all the seven gold medals in total.
SBP’s badminton teams crushed their opponents and won five gold, four silver and one bronze. Gymnastics team also showed excellent performance and brought another four gold medals and one silver for Punjab. In bodybuilding, SBP team had to content with four silver and two bronze medals
