NOTTINGHAM: Rain has delayed the toss between India and New Zealand World Cup clash in Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
According to the forecast for the afternoon, rain could move north-eastward, leading to a game in the afternoon.
The covers were removed after the rain stopped, with groundstaff at Trent Bridge working hard to dry the playing surface. But the rain then started to come down heavily and the covers came back on.
The umpires will do another pitch inspection at 4:30pm Pakistan Standard Time.
Both teams have yet to face a defeat in the tournament, with the Kiwis standing at the top of the points table.
India thumped South Africa by six wickets in their opening match of the World Cup and then beat five-time winners Australia by 36 runs. Meanwhile, table-toppers New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets and then defeated Bangladesh by two wickets. They defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in their third match of the tournament.
The two teams met in the warm-up game before the World Cup with New Zealand bowling out India for 179 runs before going on to win the game by six wickets.
Tournament organisers have faced criticism after two washouts and one no result, forcing teams to share one point each.
Bangladesh coach Steve Rhodes said: “We put men on the moon, so why can’t we have a reserve day? after their fixture against Sri Lanka in Bristol was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
International Cricket Council chief executive David Richardson said factoring in a reserve day for every match would be “extremely complex to deliver”.
