KARACHI: Pakistan’s professional boxer Mohammad Waseem is set to return to boxing ring next month with a fight against Thailand’s Wittawas Basapean.
Boasting a professional record of 8-1, the 31-year-old Waseem said he was set for his first fight in over a year and looking forward to outclass his opponent, Basapean.
“I will be fighting against Thai boxer in Dubai on September 13, this will be my first fight in more than a year,” Waseem, who last fought a professional bout in July 2018, said.
With this fight, which — if he wins — would ease his way to reclaim the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) Silver Title, the Pakistani boxer is also eyeing to fuel a jump in his ranking.
“I am training hard with my trainer, Danny Vaughan, here,” Waseem told tv from Glasgow, where he has been training for the past six months.
“This fight will help me jump to top five and, after that, I will be going for the WBC silver title,” he added.
The professional boxer, who hails from Quetta, added that the fight next month was a very important one in his career and asked fans and fellow countryfolk to pray for his success.
“I request all Pakistanis to pray for me and, those who are in Dubai, please come to see my fight,” he added.
