LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti inaugurated Lahore School Sports 2019, the biggest school sports event of Lahore’s history, at a grand colourful opening ceremony at Punjab Stadium on Monday night.
Vice-Chairman Sports Board Punjab Rao Zahid Qayyum, Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, Director Admin Javed Chohan, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Divisional Sports Officer Nadeem Qaiser and other top officials were also present on this occasion.
The grand event is being organized under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab and Divisional Sports Office, Lahore.
Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti presented shield to Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob and Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh and DG Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh also presented a shield to Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob on this occasion.
Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti also unveiled the trophy to launch the event.
Young male and female artists also offered beautiful cultural performance during the gigantic opening ceremony. The artists also presented heart-touching songs and performance to express solidarity with Kashmiris. The young male and female players also chanted loud slogans ‘Kashmir baney ga Pakistan’.
Talking to the media at the opening ceremony, Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti informed that 14,280 male and female students from 228 schools will demonstrate their talent in over 80 sports and other events during the 6-day Lahore School Sports competitions.
Punjab Minister for Sports Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti said: “We are hosting Lahore’s mammoth sports event at Punjab Stadium and definitely it is best event to revive sports culture at grassroots level. Certainly it’s a memorable day in the history of Lahore city. We have never seen such a mega sports event in the past in Lahore”.
“The grand event of Lahore School Sports will definitely help to a great extent in promotion of sports at grassroots level under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan”. It’s ideal platform for young male and female players to show their talent and I would like to request all parents to send their children for these games,” he said.
Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, on this occasion, announced that the Lahore School Sports competitions will be organized every year. “Special children will also take part in this grand sports event”.
Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, on this occasion said Lahore has never hosted such a large sports events involving schools. “We will continue to host such events in future as well”.
“It’s good to see such a large number of schools are taking part in a mega sports event. The private sector must come forward for the promotion of sports among young generation,” he added.
The grand colourful inaugural ceremony was also attended by a large number of young male and female students, their parents and thousands of sports lovers.
It is worth-mentioning that 14,280 young male and female students from over 228 govt and private schools took part in march past and won huge appreciation from massive crowd.
Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh and the large number of crowd also waved Kashmiri flags in the opening ceremony.
Young boys and girls also presented excellent aerobics and gymnastic performances during the opening ceremony. Regional artists also amused the audience with melodious songs and cultural dance.
