Islamabad: Pakistan’s top-ranked badminton player Mahoor Shahzad has added another title to her collection after winning the Pakistan Series International Badminton Tournament in Islamabad.
Mahoor, the highest-ranked Pakistani in international badminton ranking, was up against top seeded Iranian Soraya Aghaeihajiagha at Rodham Hall of Pakistan Sports Board sports complex in the federal capital.
Both players showed their skills in the final of the ladies’ singles event, battling hard over the clash’s three games.
Mahoor bagged the first game by 21-15, however, Soraya made a comeback with score of 21-16 in second game and leveled the final. The local talent showed her class in the final game to complete the victory with scores of 21-15, 16-21 and 21-16.
Meanwhile, Saran Jamsri of Thailand defeated Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius 21-14 and 21-10 to win the men’s singles final of the tournament. In the men’s doubles final, Thailand’s Prad Tangsrirapeephan and Apichasit Teerawiwat downed Nepali pair of Dipesh Dhami and Ratnajit Tamang 26-24, 21-14 to clinch the title.
Elsewhere, Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq and Fatimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of Maldives clinched the women’s doubles title after beating Pakistan’s Mahoor and Bushra Qayum 21-17, 21-13 in the final.
Hussein Zayan Shaheed and Fatimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of Maldives defeated Dipesh Dhami and Amita Giri 21-16, 21-19 to win the mixed doubles’ title.
