Islamabad:The South Asian Football Federation has postponed this year’s SAF football tournament. The tournament has been postponed for one year.
The South Asian Football Federation met via video conference.Pakistan was represented at the meeting by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Secretary General Maneza Zainali.
The meeting considered the future of SAF matches this year and unanimously decided to postpone the SAF Football Championship to be held in Bangladesh in September for one year.
The decision to postpone the tournament came as a result of the Corona virus epidemic and the consequent sports competitions in various South Asian countries and some travel restrictions.
The U-19 and U-16 events of SAF were also discussed in the meeting but the decision was postponed till the next meeting.
Apart from Pakistan, teams from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan were to participate in the SAAF Football Championship.
After the postponement of the tournament in September, Pakistani footballers will now have to wait longer for international events.
