The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has decided to start national sports activities with ‘Hockey Five’.
The national game of hockey, like other sports, has been delayed due to the global corona virus.
Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation Asif Bajwa said that the activities of International Hockey are about to start and International Hockey Federation (FIH) has also announced the schedule of Pro Hockey League.
He said that our correspondence with FIH and Asian Hockey Federation is going on and they have also given the green signal to start activities wherever possible but precautionary measures should be given top priority.
Asif Bajwa said that we are also going to start our activities with SOPs and in this regard we have also sought help from the Provincial Sports Board.
“We plan to hold a ‘Hockey Five’ event at the end of August, which could be league-based and national championships, while the senior and junior teams will be able to do so,” the PHF secretary said. I have discussed this with the management.
He said that paper work has started and hopefully we will succeed in making Hockey Five.
The Secretary PHF said that Hockey Five format will be very popular just like T20 in cricket, this format will be popular in Hockey, which will entertain the people.
Asif Bajwa said that the International Hockey Federation has decided to hold the Hockey Five World Cup in 2023. Due to the circumstances, the tournament may be postponed for a year but Pakistan will take full part in the Hockey Five.
He said that apart from Hockey Five, National Hockey Championship will also be held in September and October as per the rules.
Asif Bajwa further said that with the opinion of senior and junior coaches, 30 national players are being given epidemic allowance of Rs 30,000, 30,000 and this allowance will be distributed directly to the players.
The Secretary PHF said that the financial condition of the federation is not good but will continue to work for the welfare of the players.
It should be noted that in the last days of the last financial year, the federations which were given grants by the Pakistan Sports Board included the Pakistan Hockey Federation. The PHF received a grant of Rs 1.5 million from the PSB.
