The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has requested the Sports Arbitration Court to hold the hearing of Umar Akmal’s case on video link. The PCB took a stand in the request that the video link hearing would reduce the expenses of the parties. It should be noted that the PCB and Umar Akmal are the parties in the sports arbitration court. Umar Akmal has filed an appeal for commutation of the sentence while the PCB has filed an appeal for commutation of the sentence.
The independent adjudicator had reduced the sentence of Umar Akmal from 36 months to 18 months. The arbitral tribunal has already exchanged appeals from the parties. Sources said that both the PCB and Umar Akmal will complete the proceedings in 20 days and reply to the arbitration court.
It may be recalled that on two separate occasions, Umar Akmal was banned for three years for violating the PCB’s anti-corruption code.
Chairman Disciplinary Panel Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan on April 27 issued a summary judgment banning Umar Akmal from playing any form of cricket for three years.
