Guyana: Top-order batter and the senior most campaigner in the present Pakistan Test side Azhar Ali has expressed his desire to see his side winning the ICC Test Championship mace as his most sought after goal in the remainder of his career in a virtual media session in Georgetown, Guyana ahead of the two Test series against the West Indies that will begin in Jamaica from Thursday, 12 August.
The Pakistan squad is preparing at the Providence Cricket Stadium, Georgetown for the last three days. As part of their preparation the Test squad is playing a two-day intra-squad practice match which starts today.
Azhar Ali: “ICC World Test Championship is a valuable addition and has helped make this format more competitive. I want to see Pakistan winning the championship in my career.
“Test cricket is the pinnacle format and this format is still entertaining fans around the globe. Fans in Australia, England and New Zealand still wait for a Test match.”
“Caribbean tour is never an easy one and we are preparing for the challenges ahead here in Guyana. The West Indies have a good bowling line-up but our batters are in a good shape.”
“Babar and Mohammad Rizwan are in a good knick and they have shown their pedigree in the white-ball matches leading up to the Tests. Among the Test batters Abid Ali and Fawad Alam are also performing consistently from last couple of series.”
Meanwhile, Azhar also gave his full support to Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem and wished him good luck for his final competition which will take place tomorrow in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
