Day three started bright and early with the men’s marathon, Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola breaking the championship record to be crowned world champion. The USA’s medal count skyrocketed with an extra nine, including a 1-2 in the men’s 110m hurdles, women’s pole vault and women’s hammer throw, and a superb 1-2-3 in the men’s shot put. Superstar Joshua Cheptegei retained his title in the 10,000m and to top it all off, a Jamaican podium led by sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce wrapped up an amazing first weekend of incredible sport.
