Rusting Boxing Ring Neglected at Peshawar Sports Complex, Sparks Concerns for Athletes’ Training
Peshawa r, In a disappointing turn of events, the Peshawar Sports Complex, widely known as Qayyum Stadium, is facing criticism for neglecting an essential facility for aspiring boxers. The multipurpose sports complex, located in Peshawar, Pakistan, offers state-of-the-art amenities for various sports, including football, field hockey, squash, wrestling, and badminton. However, it seems that the complex’s boxing ring has fallen victim to negligence and disrepair.
Despite its damaged and missing parts, the old boxing ring near the tube well in the Peshawar Sports Complex has not been allocated to any other district or preserved properly. This unfortunate situation has left athletes and sports enthusiasts disheartened.
Currently, a functional boxing ring exists at the Peshawar Sports Complex, where individuals train during the evening hours. However, both the boxing association and the Provincial Sports Directorate have displayed a lack of interest in installing an additional boxing ring or offering it to another district. As a result, the existing boxing ring is slowly succumbing to rust and deterioration.
It is worth mentioning that back in 2017, a commendable initiative was undertaken at the Hayatabad Sports Complex in Peshawar, where an international standard boxing ring was inaugurated. This step showcased the commitment to uplifting the boxing scene in the region and supporting athletes.
Furthermore, the Qayyum Sports Complex in Peshawar had the honor of hosting the prestigious International Boxing Festival in 2021, highlighting the city’s potential and passion for the sport.
However, amidst these significant achievements, the neglect of the rusting boxing ring at the Peshawar Sports Complex is disconcerting. Urgent attention is required to address this issue, ensuring the availability of top-notch training facilities for boxers. It is crucial for the relevant authorities to step forward, take action, and allocate resources for the preservation or replacement of the boxing ring, allowing athletes to pursue their dreams and elevate Pakistan’s boxing scene.
