Inactive Sports Committee Raises Concerns Over Safety Standards and Policy Execution in KPK

Delayed Announcement and Inaction Hinder Effective Implementation of KPK’s Sports Policy

Peshawar , Startling revelations have surfaced regarding the lack of progress in implementing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province’s sports policy, which places a strong emphasis on safety and risk management. Despite the provincial government’s announcement of a Sports Management Committee in 2018, the committee remains inactive, raising serious concerns about oversight and safety standards.

The Provincial Sports Management Committee, intended to provide strategic guidance and recommendations to the Department of Sports, has failed to fulfill its obligations since its establishment. The committee was entrusted with administering the Provincial Sports Fund, categorizing sports facilities, setting standards, and collaborating with other agencies to promote sports throughout KPK.

Regrettably, reports indicate that the committee has not been operational, leading to inadequate implementation of programs for public engagement in sports and international competitions. Community sporting organizations, schools, individuals, and national sports bodies have been deprived of the financial and technical assistance they were supposed to receive based on established criteria.

Furthermore, the committee’s responsibility to establish legislation and codes of practice for housing developers, institutions involved in sports and fitness training, and safety in sporting facilities has been disregarded. This oversight raises significant concerns about the overall safety standards maintained by sports facilities across the province.

Stakeholders and sports enthusiasts express deep disappointment and call for immediate action to rectify the situation. The urgent need for an active and committed Provincial Sports Management Committee is stressed to effectively implement the sports policy, ensure compliance with safety standards, and provide essential support for sports and physical activities in KPK.

Moreover, the lack of attention given to character building, addressing issues faced by sportspersons, and preventing drug abuse in sports remains a grave concern. The committee was meant to advise the government on these critical matters, but its inaction has left athletes and their well-being unattended.

It is imperative for the KPK government, sports authorities, and relevant stakeholders to promptly address this situation by announcing and activating the Provincial Sports Management Committee. This step is crucial to uphold the principles of the sports policy, prioritize athlete and participant safety, and foster a culture of excellence in sports and well-being throughout the province.

As the public awaits swift action from the authorities, the focus remains on KPK’s sports sector. Urgent measures are necessary to ensure safety, strengthen oversight, and effectively execute the existing policies, ultimately safeguarding the well-being of all involved.
