Journalist’s Third RTI Application Goes Unanswered, Calls for Transparency in District Sports Office, Peshawar
Peshawar, KPK – Musarrat Ullah Jan, a journalist from the Peshawar Press Club, has submitted a third Right to Information (RTI) application to the Director General of the Sports Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, urging for transparency and accountability in the District Sports Office (DSO) in Peshawar. Despite previous applications and reminders, Musarrat Ullah Jan has not received any response or information, leading to growing concerns about the functioning of public offices.
The journalist’s latest RTI application, submitted on July 10, 2023, emphasizes the importance of transparency and accountability in public offices, particularly in the sports sector. Musarrat Ullah Jan firmly believes that citizens have the right to access information and that public offices should be held accountable for their actions.
The information requested in the RTI application pertains to the activities of the DSO in Peshawar for the year 2022. It includes the number of tournaments organized, the total number of participating players, the TADA (allowance) provided to the players, the number of tournaments supported by the district government, and details about personnel working in the DSO office.
Additionally, Musarrat Ullah Jan seeks information on the number of employees dismissed from their services in June 2023 from the DSO Peshawar office and the number of sports clubs and community sports clubs registered in Peshawar during the year 2022.
Expressing concern about the delay in receiving a response, the journalist acknowledges the time and resources required for processing RTI applications but requests the Director General to expedite the process and provide the requested information promptly. The journalist stresses the significance of access to this information in carrying out their journalistic duties effectively and ensuring transparency within the sports sector.
