Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Athletes Shine in International Taekwondo Competitions, Warmly Welcomed in Peshawar

 

 

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes, who displayed remarkable performances in the international Taekwondo competitions held in Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, received a warm welcome upon their return to Peshawar. At the Qayyum Sports Complex in Peshawar, the athletes were greeted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Adviser on Sports, Mutiullah Khan Marwat, who awarded necklaces to the medal-winning players. Their participation in these global competitions has been instrumental in showcasing talent, contributing to Pakistan’s prominent position in the world of sports today.

Mutiullah Marwat expressed his appreciation for the athletes’ exceptional achievements as they secured CK medals. He also honored the medal-winning players with garlands. He highlighted the government’s commitment to expedite the completion of Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium, ensuring its readiness for the upcoming PSL matches.
Among the distinguished guests present on this occasion were Ziaullah Afridi, a provincial leader of the Pakistan People’s Party, Azizullah Jan, Director of Operations, Syed Jafar Shah, Administrator, Ilyas Afridi, Chairman of the Provincial Taekwondo Association, Nasir Khan, Pakistan Taekwondo team manager, and Secretary Waqar Afridi, along with other prominent personalities.

The international Taekwondo competitions saw Wanya Hassan, Pakistan’s youngest athlete, shine brightly as she clinched one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Ayan, just ten years old, secured a bronze medal, showcasing immense potential at such a young age. Hasan earned one silver and one bronze medal, while Waqar Afridi secured two bronze medals, bringing immense pride to Pakistan.

Matiullah reaffirmed his dedication as a caretaker, taking charge of the sports ministry and addressing the journalists at the sports complex. He emphasized that the issue of 84 dismissed coaches has been taken up with the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the PC1 of the sports directorate has been revised to facilitate the coaches’ reinstatement in their positions. He further promised financial support to the players who participated in the Thailand competition, acknowledging their medal-winning efforts and expressing immense pride in these athletes.
