A two-member committee has finalized its inquiry report regarding the mysterious disappearance of boxing rings worth millions of rupees from the Hayatabad Sports Complex. The report has been submitted to the Director General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During their investigation, the committee visited the Hayatabad Sports Complex and gathered information from the employees. The inquiry revealed that the freestyle boxing ring, which was donated to the provincial government by Antonio Anuki in 2012 during Syed Aqil Shah’s tenure as the provincial minister, went missing.
The inquiry report also highlighted that there was no proper stock register or inventory record maintained at the complex.
Former administrator was found to be responsible for installing the ring in the female indoor gymnasium initially. However, due to development works, it was later moved to the badminton hall. This movement was carried out without proper documentation or record-keeping.
According to the committee’s findings, a former watchman unlawfully sold the boxing ring to a junkyard for a sum of Rs. 130,000 or more. The money obtained from the sale was handed over to an official. Another official confirmed that he informed the administrator about the missing freestyle wrestling ring as soon as he discovered its absence.
This official, however, denied receiving any money from the watchman and labeled the watchman’s statement as a breach of duty.
The committee emphasized that the current value of the donated boxing ring exceeds millions of rupees, shedding light on the mismanagement within the administration of the Hayatabad Sports Complex.
In its recommendations, the committee identified three individuals responsible for the disappearance of the boxing ring. It urged action against these individuals under the Disciplinary Act and Government Servants Rules of 2011, aiming to recover the lost funds.
The inquiry report has now been forwarded to the Director General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further action.
