Glass Shortage Hinders Seating Area Construction at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium

The ambitious project to create an elevated seating area above the Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium in Peshawar has faced an unexpected setback – a scarcity of glass. The intended purpose of this space is to provide seating for players, offering them a vantage point to observe the matches. Regrettably, the glass panes required for this endeavor are unavailable in the space above the stadium.

The predicament traces back to the reinstallation of the stadium’s turf last year, during which the existing glass panels were inadvertently shattered. This unfortunate occurrence transpired as a consequence of the turf restoration process. Specifically, two windows situated in the building above the stadium suffered damage amid the contractor’s work.

Beneath the impacted building lies a crucial facility – the players’ restrooms. These lavatories cater to the athletes participating in matches at the stadium. Currently, these restrooms are housed within the building’s lower levels. Curiously, the area that was initially allocated for players’ rest and changing rooms has been repurposed and reassigned to accommodate journalists covering events organized by the directorate.

The controversy deepens as the contractor involved in the construction project remained conspicuously silent regarding the broken windows on the upper floor. This incident occurred concurrently with the laying of the new turf. The lack of acknowledgement or communication from the contractor raises questions about accountability and transparency in the ongoing project.

In response to these challenges, efforts are underway to restore the broken glass windows and proceed with the creation of the intended seating area. The restoration endeavor is vital to ensure the completion of the stadium enhancement project and to provide a comfortable and practical seating solution for players during matches.
