Syed Azhar Ali Shah Elected Unopposed as President of Pakistan Cycling Federation
In an unopposed victory, Syed Azhar Ali Shah is all set to take the helm as the President of the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) for the second time. The PCF, which is scheduled to hold its elections on September 15, 2023, has seen no other candidate step forward to challenge Syed Azhar Ali Shah’s candidacy.
Having previously served as PCF President, Syed Azhar Ali Shah’s return to the presidency marks a pivotal moment in the Federation’s leadership. The election date, September 15, promises a seamless transition, reaffirming his commitment to the development and promotion of cycling in Pakistan.
Furthermore, Adnan Hassan Khan is also poised to secure his position as the Senior Vice-President of PCF, facing no opposition. Jan Alam from Balochistan is certain to be elected as the Finance Secretary without any contest, as no other nominations were received for this crucial position. Additionally, Robina Khalid is set to take the reins as the Vice-President of the Women’s Wing, unopposed.
While there are six candidates vying for the five Vice-President slots, the election process will also encompass the selection of five Associate Secretaries and two General Secretaries, a position of utmost significance within the Federation.
The Pakistan Cycling Federation has faced challenges in its relations with the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) for several years, with the POA’s non-recognition of the PCF. However, the international cycling governing body (UCI) continues to acknowledge the Federation’s legitimacy, making it essential for the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) to send its observer to these elections.
The information release by the PCF Election Commission yesterday to all concerns.
Recent efforts by the POA to mediate and resolve the issues with the PCF through a mediation committee have proven unsuccessful, further underscoring the importance of international recognition and unity within the cycling community.
The Pakistan Cycling Federation is committed to advancing the sport of cycling in Pakistan and fostering cooperation with international bodies for the betterment of the sport.
