Sports Board Punjab organized a grand ceremony at Punjab International Swimming Complex on Tuesday to honour three powerlifter sisters Twinkle Sohail, Sybil Sohail and Veronica Sohail, who clinched 15 gold medals in the Asian Pacific African Combined Powerlifting Championship in South Africa.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial and Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal were the guests of honour on this occasion.
Director Admin Dr M Kaleem, Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed, Administrator Punjab International Swimming Complex, Chairman Desi Khushti Federation Nadeem Pehlwan, father of three sisters Mr Sohail and a large number of sports enthusiasts were also present on this occasion.
Talking to media on this occasion Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial said that winning 15 gold medals is a great achievement and definitely it is a historic occasion for the country. “Without any doubt, the Sohail Sisters grabbed a great respect for the country on foreign soil,” he added.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial said that the three female players have been helped in every possible way according to the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the direction of Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar. “It is the job of Punjab Sports Department to provide facilities to players and development of the game in the province”.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial said that Punjab Sports Department will continue to provide more facilities to athletes for the preparation of international sports competitions including Commonwealth Games. “It is the vision of Punjab Chief Minister to bring back Pakistan’s golden sports period of the past.”
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial further said that Punjab Sports Department fully facilitated the three sisters for their participation in Asian Pacific African Combined Powerlifting Championship in South Africa. “Punjab Sports Department is taking effective measures for grooming and nurturing talented athletes across the province as per vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz,” he added.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial congratulated the three sisters and their parents for showing magnificent medal-winning performance in South Africa. “Our athletes are working hard and exhibiting notable performance in international sports competitions and this kind of performance will help a lot in regaining lost glory in sports”.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal, in his media talk, said that the three sisters have earned great respect for the country by winning 15 gold medals. “Sports Board Punjab is proud of three sisters. Sports Board Punjab has already played its role for providing all necessary facilities to these athletes”.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal said that Sports Board Punjab is extending all possible facilities to players under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz. “The way Sohail sisters have achieved success in international powerlifting competition, it is definitely a great inspiration and motivation for young girls and women”.
Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal further said that all possible facilities will be provided to these players for their preparation and participation in Commonwealth Games and other international powerlifting competitions. “There is no doubt that the three sisters have created history by winning 15 gold medals in South Africa”.
The three sisters also expressed their gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial and Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal for extending best facilities and encouragement.
Twinkle Sohail said that Sports Board Punjab has helped us a lot for achieving this success. “We are happy the way Sports Board Punjab organized this great ceremony in our honour and welcomed us at Allama Iqbal Airport”.
Veronica Sohail said that she dedicated her medals to the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz. “Punjab Chief Minister is a very courageous woman and I like her very much. We are proud to earn laurel for the country on foreign soil”.
Sybil Sohail dedicated her gold medals to the Prime Minister Pakistan. “We will continue to make the country proud by winning medals in the future sports competitions as well”.
She thanked Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial and Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal for extending the best facilities that made this great achievement possible.
