Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Gohar Afridi Brings Home Gold and Silver from Asian Rowing Championship
Gohar Afridi, a rising star from Khyber Jamrud district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has brought immense pride to Pakistan by clinching a gold and silver medal at the Asian Rowing Championship in Malaysia.
Despite his remarkable achievement, Afridi remains disheartened by the lack of support and recognition from both the federal and provincial governments.
Afridi, a final-year student of Sports Science and Physical Education at Punjab University, participated in the Asian Rowing Indoor Championship alongside athletes from 19 other Asian countries.
His exceptional performance earned him one gold and one silver medal, cementing Pakistan’s position on the international sporting stage.
During a visit to the Jamrud Press Club, Afridi expressed his disappointment at the government’s neglect. He highlighted the potential for Pakistan to excel in sports,
emphasizing the need for government support and cooperation. Afridi believes that with proper backing, he can achieve even greater heights and elevate Pakistan’s standing in the world of sports.
