DC Mardan Chess Open Championship to be Held on October 12 with Cash Prizes Worth PKR 250,000

PESHAWAR: The Deputy Commissioner Mardan Chess Open Championship is scheduled for October 12 at the Mardan Sports Complex, featuring competitions in men’s open, women’s open, under-14, and under-15 categories. A total of PKR 250,000 in cash prizes will be distributed among the top performers, along with trophies, medals, and certificates.

Organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chess Association in collaboration with the District Administration Mardan, the championship will host male and female players from across the country. Kashif Saleem, Secretary of the Provincial Chess Association, highlighted during a media briefing that the association has been actively working towards promoting chess in the region. In addition to hosting the RMI Chess Championship for the second consecutive time, the association has held several other events, providing ample opportunities for women and youth to participate.

He further mentioned that, thanks to the efforts of Provincial Chess Association President Umar Khan and other officials, the Mardan District Association will now host the Mardan Chess Open Championship. This event will showcase the talents of top male and female chess players from all over Pakistan.

In terms of prizes, Kashif Saleem shared that the winner of the open category will receive PKR 40,000, with the runner-up taking home PKR 30,000.

The third-place finisher will receive PKR 25,000, and prizes of PKR 15,000, PKR 10,000, PKR 8,000, PKR 6,000, and PKR 4,000 will be awarded to players finishing in 4th to 8th place, respectively. Players finishing 9th through 15th will receive PKR 2,000 each.

In the women’s open category, the champion will win PKR 20,000, while the runner-up will receive PKR 12,000, and the third-place finisher will earn PKR 8,000.

The under-15 category winner will be awarded PKR 15,000, with PKR 10,000 for the runner-up, and PKR 5,000 for third place. Additionally, the under-14 winner will receive PKR 5,000.

The championship will also present trophies, medals, and certificates to the participants. Kashif Saleem emphasized that their goal is to provide maximum financial support to the players. “When players are financially supported, it helps in the growth of the game, and the players themselves become more stable,” he added.
