Charsadda Hockey Turf Abandoned Amid Corruption Allegations
Charsadda, Pakistan: A state-of-the-art hockey turf, inaugurated with much fanfare in Charsadda’s Sports Stadium on October 7, 2021, has been rendered unusable due to alleged corruption.
The Abdul Wali Khan Hockey Turf, constructed at a cost of 8.1 million rupees, was designed to provide world-class facilities to local hockey players.
However, within a year of its completion, the Anti-Corruption Department discovered that the turf had been installed incorrectly, making it unplayable. This has left local hockey players in a dire situation, as they no longer have access to a proper training ground.
Despite numerous complaints from players, the local District Sports Officer (DSO) of Charsadda and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate have failed to take any action.
The neglect has raised serious questions about the quality of sports infrastructure in the region and the commitment of authorities to promoting sports.
Local hockey players are questioning why their voices are being ignored. They are demanding a prompt repair of the hockey turf and an investigation into the matter.
The incident has highlighted a broader issue of corruption and mismanagement in public projects in Pakistan.
