Pakistan Women’s U19 training camp – Greens edge Blues in thrilling Super over contest

The Pakistan U19 Women’s team training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi witnessed an electrifying T20 practice match between Team Blues and Team Greens.
The match ended in a nail-biting finish, with Greens defeating Blues by four runs in a Super Over. Both teams scored 134 runs in their allotted 20 overs, resulting in a thrilling finale.
Greens opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Blues posted a competitive 134 for six in their 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant knock by Najiha Alvi.
The right-handed batter smashed 51 runs off 32 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. She was well-supported by Rameen Shamim, who contributed 25 runs off 19 balls, including two boundaries, and Yusra Amir, who scored 21 runs off 29 deliveries with two fours.
For Greens, Aleesha Mukhtiar delivered an excellent spell, claiming two wickets for 26 runs, while Memoona Khalid also picked up two wickets, conceding 30 runs.
Chasing 135, Greens put up a spirited effort, with Komal Khan anchoring the innings with a splendid 63 runs off 60 balls, featuring seven boundaries and a six. Zsofishan Ayyaz provided valuable support, scoring 31 runs off 27 balls, including five fours. However, the Blues’ bowlers kept things tight, with Rameen Shamim and Shehar Bano taking two wickets each for 22 and 24 runs, respectively.
With the scores level at 134 after 20 overs, the match proceeded to a Super Over. Greens set a target of 12 runs, which proved too steep for Blues as they managed only eight runs in reply.
Head Coach Mohsin Kamal lauded the players for their performances and noted the intensity of the match as an encouraging sign ahead of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The squad is set to depart for Malaysia on 10 January to compete in the tournament.
The camp continues with a focus on refining batting, bowling, and fielding skills, ensuring the players are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
