Aziz Damani triumph in AKG Premier League Season 2 opener.
KARACHI: Hard hitting batsman Skipper Mir Afzal Baig struck a brisk unbeaten half-century 60 runs and one wicket while deadly spell of bowling by slow left- armer Faizan Surani grabbed 3 wicket for conceded only 23 runs as Aziz Damani team launched the start of the AKG Premier League Season 2 with an easy win over United Thunders here on yesterday.
After restricting United Thunders to 153-7 in the stipulated 20 overs, Aziz Damani romped to a 6-wicket success in 19.4 overs of their League fixture at the AKG ground
Afzal led the chase by striking six boundaries and two sixes in scoring an unbeaten 60 from 50 deliveries. Irfan Rehmat hit 23 in in 18 balls with three fours Naveed Ali scored 20 off 11 balls with four boundaries while Irfan Ali and Zahir Ali equally made 18 runs. Rahil Sayani captured 2- 18, Mir Afzal Baig was declared man-of-the-match with his match winning all round performance.
Earlier, United Thunders struggled after the flying start off 90 in only 9 overs while being put into bat. Sami Ullah Khan top-scored with brilliant 57 off 29 balls with eight fours and two sixes, Skipper Javed Mansoor contributed unbeaten 36 off 33 balls with six fours and Waqaab Johar made 23 off 18 with three fours
Slow left- armer Faizan Surani finished with excellent figures. with 3- 23,Nabil Rehmat 1-18 and Mir Afzal Baig 1-23 suprted well.
Meanwhile, the tournament was officially inaugurated on yesterday in a traditional ceremony during which chief guest Chairman of AKG Abdul Sultan Khimani hit the ball.Also present on the occasion were members of AKG management Munir Samani, Sabir Khan, Conviner Mir Afzal Baig, tournament committee members Hamid Ali Khan,Javed Mansoor and Saleem A Rahim.
