Pakistan Olympic Association Executive Committee Approves National Sports Commission’s Recommendations
Emergency meeting chaired by POA President Arif Saeed confirms December hosting of 35th National Games
KARACHI — The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Executive Committee has given final approval for the 35th National Games to be held in December.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting chaired by POA President Arif Saeed, where recommendations from the National Sports Commission were reviewed regarding the rescheduling of the event.
Originally, the National Games were scheduled to be held in Karachi from May 1 to 9. However, due to a heatwave alert in Sindh, the event had to be postponed just 15 days prior to its commencement.
Following this, the National Sports Commission met in Lahore three days ago and proposed holding the games in December, when the weather is more favorable.
The POA Executive Committee found the Commission’s recommendations to be balanced and accepted them in full. According to the decision, the 35th National Games will now be hosted by the Sindh Olympic Association in Karachi this December. The detailed schedule will be announced later.
The meeting also discussed a letter written by an unauthorized official of the Punjab Olympic Association to the Punjab Sports Board, which was deemed a violation of the Olympic Charter.
Sindh Olympic Association Secretary General Ahmed Ali Rajput emphasized that the act challenged the authority of the POA and was technically incorrect.
He stated that if the Punjab Olympic Association had any such concerns, they should have addressed them directly to the POA rather than the Punjab Sports Board.
He called for disciplinary action against the responsible individual. The committee assured that appropriate steps will be taken regarding the matter.
