RISJA elects new office-bearers to strengthen sports journalism
The General Council of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) held a key meeting on Thursday at the Pakistan Sports Complex, where it unanimously elected its new office-bearers for the upcoming term.
The gathering brought together leading sports journalists from various prominent media organizations, reflecting the vibrancy and unity of the sports journalism community in the twin cities.
In a show of consensus and solidarity, Ayaz Akbar Yousafzai of Geo News was elected Chairman, while Faisal Sahi of Public News was chosen as President of the association.
The newly elected Senior Vice President is Muhammad Shafique Raja from the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), a seasoned journalist with a long-standing record in sports reporting.
The posts of Vice Presidents were awarded to Naveed Khokhar of Roze News and Ambreen Ali of NewsOne, showcasing a balanced representation of both genders and diverse media platforms.
Arif Khan from K2 TV was named Secretary, while Husnain Liaqat of ABN News took over as Finance Secretary. The role of Information Secretary was assigned to Ahmer Najeeb Satti of PTV News, ensuring strong media outreach and communication.
Mohsin Ijaz from ARY News was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee, with a team of active members including Usman Khan (Daily Peak-Point), Javed Khan (Radio Pakistan), Nisaar Khan (Daily Times), Allah Noor Wazir (Mashriq TV), and Wafa Abbas (Such News).
The council reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion of sports journalism and vowed to work collectively for the rights, training, and welfare of sports journalists.
The elected body also pledged to foster closer cooperation with national sports federations and provide comprehensive coverage to emerging athletes and underrepresented sports disciplines.
