Abubakar, Yahya, Zohaib squeeze into U-18 semis at BoP Junior National Tennis Championship

LAHORE: Wapda’s Abubakar Talha, Muhammad Yahya, and SA Gardens’ Zohaib Afzal Malik squeezed into the boys’ U-18 singles semifinals of the Bank of Punjab (BoP) Junior National Tennis Championship 2025, currently underway at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah.
In the boys’ U-18 quarterfinals, Abubakar Talha outclassed Nabeel Qayum 6-1, 6-2, while Muhammad Yahya registered a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory over M. Omer Ali. Zohaib Afzal Malik, student of LGS Phase V and ACE Tennis Academy, advanced to the semis via walkover against Omar Jawad.
In the boys’ U-14 quarterfinals, Muhammad Muaz defeated M Ibraheem Hussain Gill 4-1, 4-2; Ohad-e-Mustafa beat Abdur Rehman 4-2, 4-1; Muhammad Junaid edged out Muhammad Ayan 4-2, 5-3; and Rashid Ali Bachani overcame Zayd Zaman 5-3, 4-0.
In the boys’ U-12 quarterfinals, Muhammad Muaz dominated Omer Zaman 4-0, 4-1; Muhammad Ayan beat Shahzain Faisal 4-2, 4-1; M Ibraheem Hussain Gill defeated M Ehsan Bari 4-0, 4-1; and Rashid Ali Bachani blanked Ibrahim Talha 4-0, 4-0.
In the girls’ U-12 quarterfinals, Wajeeha Fatima breezed past Amna Saqib 4-1, 4-0, while Eman Shahbaz came from behind to beat Shahreen Omer 1-4, 4-2, 4-2. In girls’ U-14 category, Shahnoor Umer toppled Eman Shahbaz 4-1, 4-2, and Anaya Khan edged Shahreen Umer in two thrilling sets, 5-4, 5-4.
The championship will conclude today (Sunday) with the closing ceremony scheduled at 5:45 pm at the Punjab Tennis Academy. Zafar Masud, President of The Bank of Punjab; Asad Zia, Head of Marketing Services & CSR at BoP; and Asiam ul Haq Qureshi, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, will grace the occasion as chief guests. Rashid Malik, Senior Executive Vice President of the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association, will also be present there.
