Muzamil clinches men’s singles title at Sheheryar Malik Memorial Tennis
LAHORE: Muzamil Murtaza clinched the 9th Sheheryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2025 that concluded at the Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park on Sunday.
In the men’s singles final, seasoned campaigner Muzamil Murtaza prevailed over Muhammad Shoaib Khan in a hard-fought contest, winning 7-5, 7-5 to claim the prestigious title.
In the Seniors 45+ Doubles final, the pair of Talha Waheed (Gas & Oil Pakistan) and Ashar Ali Khan defeated Hassan Said and Hadi Hussain 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 to claim the title, while in the seniors 65+ doubles final, Waqar Nisar and Inam-ul-Haq of National Police Academy Islamabad overcame Brig (R) Ghazanfar and Maj Saeed 7-6, 6-0 to earn the title.
Future tennis prospects also impressed, with Shayan Afridi beating Muhammad Aayan 4-2, 4-2 in the boys U-12 final, while Aiman Rehan clinched the girls U-12 title after Khadija Khalil retired at 4-1, 3-0. In the U-10 final, Daniyal Abdullah defeated Emaan Shahbaz 6-1.
MPA Bilal Yaseen graced the concluding ceremony as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Other distinguished guests included PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Manzoor Butt, and senior tennis officials, players, their families and tennis enthusiasts.
PLTA Senior Executive Vice President Rashid Malik thanked MPA Bilal Yaseen for his presence and also expressed gratitude to Aisam-ul-Haq for attending the finals.
He further appreciated Punjab Sports Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar for announcing Rs 500,000 for the event and acknowledged all sponsors for their generous support. Malik congratulated the champions and encouraged the runners-up to continue working hard for future competitions.
