Sultan of Swing in Making: Pakistan’s pacer Salman Mirza shines with devastating T20 spell

ISLAMABAD : Report by Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan’s rising left-arm fast bowler Salman Irshad Mirza delivered a sensational performance in the second T20 match, proving that true talent cannot be overshadowed by big names. Known for his pace and movement, the young pacer showcased exceptional control and aggression with the ball.

Salman, who has often been compared to Pakistan’s legendary left-arm fast bowlers, demonstrated remarkable discipline, maintaining a consistent line and length reminiscent of Wasim Akram, even though he did not rely heavily on yorkers like Shaheen Afridi. His fiery spell left fans and experts praising his natural ability and temperament.

The pacer made his T20 debut on 21 February 2021 for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League after being discovered through the franchise’s Player Development Program. Notably, star batsman Babar Azam recommended Salman’s selection for the Lahore match and advised the team management to give him the new ball, a decision that proved to be spot-on.

In the match, Salman picked up 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 3 overs, removing top South African batters with confidence and precision. He struck on the second ball of his first international over and embraced Babar Azam respectfully after claiming his maiden wicket. He continued his dominance, removing another South African batsman in his next over, firmly etching his name in cricketing discussions. He bowled calmly and confidently even after taking his third wicket, showing maturity beyond his years.

Salman also praised captain Salman Ali Agha, describing him as a supportive leader who does not put players under pressure even in tough situations.

Pakistan has seen many fast-bowling prospects rise and disappear due to injuries, and experts believe the Pakistan Cricket Board must protect talents like Salman Mirza to ensure long-term success.

Born 1 January 1994 in Lahore, Salman made his List-A debut on 24 November 2023 and his First-Class debut on 6 December 2023 in Zimbabwe domestic cricket. Lahore Qalandars selected him again for PSL 2025 in the supplementary category, where he played four matches and won two Player-of-the-Match awards.

With his raw pace, swing, and discipline, Salman Irshad Mirza appears to be Pakistan’s next promising left-arm fast-bowling star, and cricket fans are eagerly watching his journey.
