Arshad Nadeem eyes Pakistan’s first gold as javelin duo set for action in Islamic Solidarity Games
Riyadh ; By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan is hopeful of securing its first gold medal at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, where Olympic medalist Arshad Nadeem will be in action on Monday. Alongside him, fellow national athlete Yasir Sultan will also compete in the javelin throw event.
There is strong optimism that Olympian Arshad Nadeem will clinch the top position and deliver Pakistan’s maiden gold at the ongoing Games, while good performances are also expected from Yasir Sultan. Both athletes have arrived in Saudi Arabia with their coach, Salman Butt, and are undergoing full preparations ahead of their competitions.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan has so far secured two medals at the Games. Fatima Zahra earned a bronze medal in the women’s 60kg boxing category after reaching the semifinals, while Qudratullah claimed bronze in the men’s 55kg boxing event.
Additionally, Pakistan’s Uroosha Saeed won a bronze medal in the exhibition discipline of Kurash; however, this result will not be counted in the official medal tally. The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, which began on November 7, will continue in Riyadh until November 21.
