15th PSN Annual Sports Festival kicks off at Margalla Town Football Ground

ISLAMABAD, The 15th Annual Sports Festival of the Private Schools Network (PSN) Islamabad kicked off onThursday at the Margalla Town Football Ground, with enthusiastic participation from students of low-cost private schools from across Highway Zone of the federal capital.

The multi-day festival is aimed at promoting physical fitness, discipline and sportsmanship among students. The concept of organising this inclusive sports event was the brainchild of renowned educationist late Dr. Afzal Babar, who dedicated his life to the uplift of low-cost schools in Islamabad.

Dr. Afzal passed away on October 23 this year, and a special homage was paid to him during the opening ceremony, with participants and organisers paying tribute to his vision and services to education.

Students are taking part in a variety of sport disciplines, including cricket, tug of war, sack race, 100-metre and 200-metre races, and the traditional chatty race, where young athletes are actively showcasing their talent and competitive spirit.

Speaking on the occasion, newly-appointed PSN President Maqbool Hussain Dar said the sports festival reflects PSN’s commitment to the holistic development of students.

“Sports play a vital role in building confidence, discipline and teamwork among children. Through this festival, we aim to provide equal opportunities to students of low-cost schools to explore and polish their hidden talents,” he said.

He paid rich tribute to late Dr. Afzal Babar, saying, “This festival is a continuation of Dr. Afzal Babar’s vision. He believed that students of low-cost schools deserve the same platforms as others, and PSN will continue to carry forward his mission.”

School heads, teachers, parents and students attended the opening ceremony in large numbers, creating a lively and motivating atmosphere for young participants. PSN office-bearers expressed the hope that the festival would further strengthen a culture of sports and healthy competition among schoolchildren in Islamabad.
