ICC Women’s Rankings Update: Milestone for Athapaththu; Gains for Pakistan and Bangladesh

By Nawzaz Gohar ; The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its updated player rankings for women’s cricket. Sri Lankan star all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu has reached a career-best position, moving up to third place in the T20 All-Rounder rankings following a series of exceptional performances.

Athapaththu’s rise follows her dominant display against Bangladesh, where she excelled with both bat and ball. Across three matches, she scored 115 runs and claimed 4 wickets, earning the ‘Player of the Series’ award. This performance propelled her to 368 rating points, the highest of her career.

In the all-rounder rankings, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr remains in first place, followed by West Indies’ Hayley Matthews in second.

In the latest T20 player standings, Athapaththu is currently ranked 9th in batting and 41st in bowling. Other Sri Lankan players also saw positive movement:

Harshitha Samarawickrama: Moved up to a joint 20th position in batting.

Kavisha Dilhari: Climbed to 17th place among bowlers.

Umisha Thimeshani: Advanced 23 spots to secure the 49th position.

Significant improvements were also noted among the Bangladeshi players, including Sharmin Akhter, Dilara Akhter, and Shorna Akter. Additionally, Sultana Khatun made a massive leap of 48 spots to reach 38th place.

Following a successful ODI series against Zimbabwe, the Pakistan women’s team also saw several players improve their rankings:

Sidra Amin: Climbed the rankings to reach the 11th position in batting.

Sadaf Shamas: Jumped 12 places to achieve a career-best ranking of 72nd.

Nashra Sandhu: Secured the 11th position in the bowling rankings, thanks to her consistently impressive performances.
