IHC rejects AFP’s plea against lifting ban on Arshad Nadeem’s coach

ISLAMABAD : By Nawaz Gohar ; A major development has emerged from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding the ban imposed on Salman Butt, the coach of Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem.

Islamabad High Court Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir dismissed the petition filed by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) challenging the decision to lift the ban on Salman Butt. The court directed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to hear the appeal filed by the Athletics Federation and decide the matter in accordance with the law.

It is pertinent to note that the Pakistan Athletics Federation had earlier imposed a lifetime ban on coach Salman Butt. However, the PSB adjudicator had revoked the ban, declaring it unconstitutional. Following this,

the Athletics Federation challenged the PSB adjudicator’s decision to lift the ban and approached the Islamabad High Court. The petition was filed against the ruling of the PSB adjudicator, chaired by Pervez Rashid.

With the dismissal of the federation’s plea, the matter will now be taken up by the Pakistan Sports Board for further proceedings, as directed by the Islamabad High Court.
