The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has banned Para powerlifting athlete Omotola Eniola Falodun for a period of four years for committing an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).

The Nigerian returned an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for a Prohibited Substance in a urine sample provided in-competition on 6 February 2020.

The substances were 19-norandrosterone and 19-noretiocholanolone. The substances are included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2020 Prohibited List under the class S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids.

As a result of her violation, Falodun will be ineligible for competition for four years from 6 February 2020 to 5 February 2024. The results obtained by the athlete from the date the sample was collected will also be disqualified, with all resulting consequences, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.

Each athlete is strictly liable for the substances found in his or her sample. An ADRV occurs whenever a prohibited substance (or its metabolites or markers) is found in his or her bodily specimen, whether or not the athlete intentionally or unintentionally used a prohibited substance or was negligent or otherwise at fault.

As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code (the WADC), the IPC remains committed to a doping-free sporting environment at all levels. The IPC has established the IPC Anti-Doping Code (Code) in compliance with the general principles of the WADC, including the WADC International Standards, expecting that, in the spirit of sport, it will lead the fight against doping in sport for Athletes with an impairment.

England have sounded the final whistle on football as a warm-up activity in training sessions.
Ashley Giles, the director of England’s men’s teams, has never made any secret of his disapproval of his side playing football. And, after Rory Burns became the latest player to sustain a football-related injury, Giles and Chris Silverwood, the England coach, have decided to ban the activity.

Burns suffered serious ligament damage to his ankle after landing awkwardly while playing football as a warm-up to training on Thursday. He was subsequently ruled out of the rest of the series in South Africa and will fly back to England on Friday night. Jonny Bairstow also suffered a football-related injury in Sri Lanka at the end of 2018 while, in the past, Joe Denly and James Anderson have also been hurt playing the game.

Giles said when he took the job that he was unhappy to see football as part of England’s warm-up. But he was persuaded by senior players that it was an important part of the bonding process of the squad and agreed to review it once the World Cup had finished. The injury to Burns appears to have strengthened his resolve.

Giles banned football from Warwickshire when he was director of cricket there. England have denied suggestions football has been banned at all counties as a warm-up activity, saying it is up to each individual county to decide.

The England management team will discuss whether they need to call-up a replacement for Burns over the next day or two. They have, at present, only one reserve batsman – Bairstow – in the squad and are likely to consider Dawid Malan, James Vince and Keaton Jennings as options. But with the squad size still 18 and only two Tests left after this, it is far from certain they will send for anyone.

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer may also have played his final game in the series. He will undergo a second scan on his sore right elbow on Friday after the first one proved inconclusive.

Lahore:-Last year’s PSL spot-fixing scandal has claimed yet another scalp, with Shahzaib Hasan handed a one-year ban after falling foul of the PCB’s anti-corruption code. Shahzaib was found guilty on two counts of breaching Clause 2.4.4, which deals with a failure to disclose corrupt approaches, and one count of Clause 2.4.5, which concerns the failure to report any incident a player is aware of that would amount to a breach of the anti-corruption code.

Shahzaib has, crucially, been found not guilty of breaching the far more serious Clause 2.1.4, which involves “directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any participant to breach any of the foregoing provisions of this Article 2.1.” That would have likely led to a significantly longer ban.

Since Shahzaib was provisionally suspended by the PCB on March 18 last year, his ban is less than three weeks away from its end. He has also been fined Rs 1 million (approximately 6500). However, the PCB’s legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi, speaking to reporters after the verdict, said this did not mean he would be eligible to play cricket as soon as that.

“His ban may end on March 17, but remember that according to the anti-corruption code, you have to go through a rehabilitation process. The first step towards beginning rehabilitation is the acceptance of guilt. If he does not accept that he was guilty, then his rehabilitation process cannot begin.”

Shahzaib is the sixth player to be sanctioned in the wake of the PSL spot-fixing case. Today’s events meant all six players – Sharjeel Khan (5 years), Khalid Latif (5 years), Mohammad Irfan (1 year) , Mohammad Nawaz (2 months), Nasir Jamshed (1 year) were the others – have been banned for certain lengths of time for their role in the saga. Even so, the process is not yet concluded. The PCB has slapped further corruption charges on Nasir Jamshed, which could result in a longer ban, while it is not yet clear whether either party will appeal the tribunal’s verdict on Shahzaib.

It has been more than seven years since the opening batsman Shahzaib last played for Pakistan, with his participation in their victorious 2009 World T20 campaign the highlight of his brief international career of three ODIs and 10 T20Is.

London:British Olympic boxer Muhammad Ali has been banned for two years after failing a drugs test.

The 21-year-old flyweight tested positive for the anabolic steroid Trenbolone during the World Series of Boxing in Morocco in April last year.

Ali argued he may have eaten contaminated meat in Morocco, or had the steroid in his system after having a drink intended for his father.

But it was decided he not give enough proof to establish he was not at fault.

“All they caught me with was two nanograms. I can’t explain it,” said Ali.

“I was trying to make 52kg and I wouldn’t want to put muscle on. I was literally trying to cut weight. It doesn’t make sense.”

Ali, the first member of the British boxing squad to fail a drugs test for a banned substance, will be eligible to compete again in May 2019.

He was provisionally suspended in October and has now reached a “settlement agreement” with the International Boxing Association (AIBA).

AIBA acknowledged Ali had not taken the substance with the intention to cheat.

GB Boxing said it is “committed to clean sport” and noted AIBA found the athlete did not intend to cheat.

A spokesperson added: “At GB Boxing, our focus is on supporting the boxers on the World Class Performance Programme and giving them the support, assistance and coaching expertise they need to develop, improve and win medals at major international championships and the Olympic Games.

“We work with UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and our International Federation to provide extensive education and support to our boxers on anti-doping rules, the anti-doping obligations upon them as athletes and the importance of adhering to the principles of clean sport.”

Trenbolone, which supports muscle growth, is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list.

Ali, who lost in the first round of the 2016 Rio Olympics, believes the length of his ban is “extreme” and said it “couldn’t have been any worse”.

The European silver medallist added: “I didn’t leave my bedroom for five months. I was so depressed, but it is what it is. I’ve just got to do my time and move on.

“I thought it would be a six-month suspension or something.”

Ali is now targeting the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“It 100% makes me more hungry – I want it more than ever now – not 1% of me thought this would ever happen to me, ” he said.

“There’s going to be people saying this and that. I don’t want anyone thinking I’m a bad guy.”
