Sweden’s defensive line also failed to stop Ronaldo in the second half. Ronaldo scored another goal in the 72nd minute.

Portugal won the match 2-0 against Sweden.

In the last Test match of the ongoing series in Southampton, in response to England’s 583 runs, the national team was bowled out for 273 runs in the first innings.

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali batted brilliantly and played an unbeaten innings of 141 runs, but even this innings could not save the team from follow-on.

On the third day of the match, Pakistan started batting at 24 for 3, soon after, it suffered a major loss, first in the form of Fawad Alam and then Asad Shafiq.

When the team lost 5 wickets for a total of 75, captain Azhar Ali not only pushed the team’s score forward but also completed his 17th century in his Test career.

He was joined by Mohammad Rizwan who played an innings of 53 runs and was dismissed for 213 runs.

However, after that, captain Azhar Ali continued to demonstrate his responsible batting, but despite this, the England bowlers continued to take wickets from the other side.

Pakistan’s entire team was dismissed after scoring 273 runs with which the team fell victim to follow-on in the match.

England fast bowler James Anderson took 5 wickets for 56 runs.

The national team is facing a deficit of 310 runs in the first innings.

Jonny Bairstow scored a century and Test captain Joe Root 91 in England’s final warm-up match before the one-day series against South Africa.

England made 346-7 in 50 overs against a South Africa Invitation XI in Paarl.

Because of power cuts, the hosts batted for 20 overs and were then set 85 from 10 overs to test England’s bowlers – a target they reached with two balls to spare.

The three-match ODI series starts in Cape Town on Tuesday.

It will be England’s first 50-over international since winning the World Cup for the first time in July last year.

After England won the toss, Bairstow reached 100 off 83 balls before retiring out, while Root faced 89 deliveries before he was bowled by Stephan Tait.

Joe Denly contributed 85 then took two wickets, while Matt Parkinson took three in an over. Jacques Snyman scored 22 off Saqib Mahmood’s final over.

Benoni:A half-century from Mohammad Huraira on debut secured Pakistan U19 a six-wicket win against Afghanistan U19 in the fourth quarter-final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Benoni on Friday.

Pakistan will face India U19 on Tuesday, 4 February, in the first Super League semi-final in Potchefstroom.

Huraira, the 17-year-old opener from Sialkot, top-scored with 64 off 76 balls before he was mankaded by Noor Ahmad in the 28th over of Pakistan’s run-chase.

Pakistan’s chase began with a flourish as Hurraira, who hit eight fours and a six, made full use of a dropped catch early in his innings.

His opening partner Haider Ali hit five spanking fours in his 34-ball 28 before he was run out. The pair added 61 runs in 11.3 overs.

Captain Rohail Nazir added 56 for the second-wicket with Hurraira before the former was dismissed by Noor for a 35-ball 22.

The possibility of Pakistan breaking the losing streak against Afghanistan at this level – Pakistan had lost their last four completed matches against Afghanistan stretching from November 2017 – came under threat when the batting side lost three wickets for 10 runs with their score slipping from 117 for one to 127 for four.

But, an unbeaten 63-run stand between Qasim Akram (25 off 41) and Mohammad Haris (29 off 43) helped Pakistan chase the target with 53 balls spare.

Batting first after winning the toss, Afghanistan were dismissed for 189 run in 49.1 overs. Captain and opener Farhan Zakhil top-scored for the Afghans with a 55-ball 40, hitting seven fours in his innings. Abdul Rahman provided a late flourish to the innings with a 41-ball 30 (two fours and one six).

Middle-order batsmen Rahmanullah (29) and Abid Mohammadi (28) made useful contributions.

For Pakistan, pacer Amir Khan took three wickets for 58 runs in his 10 overs. Leg-spinner Fahad Munir provided two useful breakthroughs in his seven over spell in which he conceded 29 runs.

Qasim Akram, Abbas Afridi, Tahir Hussain and Aamir Ali took a wicket each.

For his match-winning knock, Huraira was named man-of-the-match.

Lahore:Opener Muneeba Ali scored a superb 108 to help PCB Challengers to a 42-run win over PCB Dynamites in the third match of the National Triangular T20 Women’s Cricket Championship at Karachi’s National Stadium on Saturday.

The left-handed batter struck 17 fours and a six in 69 balls after Challengers’ captain Bismah Maroof elected to bat after winning the toss.

Over the course of her innings, Muneeba stitched a profound 118-run stand for the second wicket with her captain helping Challengers to post a daunting 182 for three in 20 overs.

Bismah scored 32 off 31, hitting one four and one six, while all-rounder Nida Dar smashed a quickfire 14-ball 29 not out, studded with four fours and a six.

The only bowler to pick up a wicket in Challengers’ innings was Sana Mir, who returned one for 44 in four overs, as Ayesha Zafar (three) and Muneeba were run-out.

Left-arm orthodox Sadiq Iqbal took three wickets for 20 runs in three overs in Dynamites’ reply which restricted the Nahida Khan-led unit to 140 for five in 20 overs.

With a 30-ball 38, which included four fours and a six, Iram Javed was the highest scorer for Dynamites, while Nahida and Kainat Hafeez scored 36 and 26 respectively.

Challengers’ Saba Nazir and Nida Dar were the other wicket-takers as both spinners took a wicket each.

For her match-winning knock, Muneeba bagged the player of the match award.

The fourth match of the tournament will be played between PCB Dynamites and PCB Blasters on Sunday. Blasters have won their both matches, to date, while Dynamites are yet to open their account.

Karachi:Balochistan’s Imran Butt stroked his third century of the tournament on the opening day of his side’s four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture against Northern at Karachi’s UBL Sports Complex.

The right-handed opener scored 124 runs from 150 balls and led Balochistan’s way to 271 for eight in 84 overs after Northern, the visiting team, decided to not to contest the toss.

Balochistan negotiated the opening hour without losing any wicket. Left-arm spinner Nauman Ali and left-arm paceman Sadaf Hussain picked up a wicket each in the latter part of the morning session to have the scorecard reading 114 for two at Lunch.

Balochistan consolidated in the second session courtesy a high-paced knock by Imran, who smacked 21 boundaries.

Imran, to date, accumulated 802 runs in eight matches and has become the second highest run-getter in the tournament behind Southern Punjab’s Sami Aslam, who has 857 runs.

Imran failed to get the desired support from the other end as the other notable contribution was 32 off 81 balls from his captain Imran Farhat.

Umar Gul (29) and Mohammad Asghar (0) will resume the Balochistan innings on the second day.

Nauman and Sadaf were chief destroyers for Northern with three wickets apiece.

Northern are fourth on the table with one win in eight games, while Balochistan, without a single triumph, are placed at the bottom.

Lahore:Rohail Nazir’s sparkling century helped Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 77 runs in the final of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2019 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.

After being put into bat, the openers Omair Bin Yousuf (4 off 15 balls) and Haider (26 off 23 balls) fell early leaving Pakistan 41 for two in the eighth over.

After the departure of the opening pair, Imran Rafiq and Rohail Nazir got together and contributed a 117-run partnership for the third wicket. Imran’s 62 off 88 balls included four fours and two sixes.

Rohail top-scored with a 111-ball 113, laced with 12 fours and three sixes.

Saud Shakeel played a captain’s innings and contributed a quick-fire 42 off 40 balls to help his side reach 301 for six in 50 overs.

For Bangladesh, Sumon Khan picked three wickets for 75 runs, while Hasan Mahmud grabbed two wickets.

Chasing 302, Bangladesh were never in the hunt and were bundled out for 224 in 43.3 overs.

Afif Hossain coming to bat at number five, top-scored with a 53-ball 49, hitting four fours and a six. The home team captain Nazmul Hossain’s innings of 46 off 53 balls, and Mahedi Hasan’s 42 off 45 balls went in vain.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Hasnain took three wickets for 32 runs in 8.3 overs. Khushdil Shah and Saif Badar chipped in with two wickets apiece for 39 and 27 runs, respectively.

Wicket-Keeper batsman Rohail Nazir for his century was named the player of the final.

HAMILTON: A century by Ross Taylor and lusty late hitting by Mitch Santner delivered a last-over victory to New Zealand against England in their first one-day international in Hamilton on Sunday.

In a match filled with twists and turns, the outcome hung in the balance until Santer smacked a six in the final over to get New Zealand home with four balls to spare.

Rival captains Kane Williamson and Eoin Morgan both said the initiative “ebbed and flowed” throughout the match.

“There wasn´t much between the sides and I think that´s reflected in the result,” added England skipper Morgan.

Taylor with 113 and Latham (79) paved the way for the New Zealand win and when England produced a middle-order collapse Santner hit a match-winning 45 off 27 deliveries.

Ben Stokes celebrated his return to international cricket with the crucial wicket of Latham to snap a 178-run stand with Taylor and have New Zealand at 205 for four in the 40th over.

They slipped further to 244 for seven before Santner lashed out to chase down England´s 284 for eight.

“When we broke the partnership we knew we were back in the game but taking it towards the end we just didn´t have enough in the tank,” said Morgan.

Williamson, who won the toss and elected to bowl, expecting the dew to have an effect late in the day-night match, singled out key moments which went New Zealand´s way, particularly with bowling late in the England innings.

“We had to play a lot of cricket before the dew came in but I think it was a factor tonight,” he said.

“A lot of credit to the death bowling. To keep them to 70-something in the last 10 was a very good effort,” Williamson added.

“It was a brilliant partnership (from Taylor and Latham) but also from Mitch Santner at the end to bring us home.”

Whiff of victory

New Zealand were in trouble at the start of their run chase as they fell to three for 27 in the 10th over.

Taylor, with his 18th century, and Latham clawed the home side back into the game with their 178-run stand before Stokes stepped up to remove Latham for 79.

Latham´s dismissal sparked a middle-order collapse with three wickets falling for 10 runs.

As Taylor started to run out of partners, he tried to up the pace to get New Zealand home but with 25 balls remaining and New Zealand needing a further 45 runs, he was stumped on 113.

But if England had a whiff of victory, Santner had other ideas with a rapid two fours and four sixes to get New Zealand home.

Stokes, returning for his first international since a nightclub incident five months ago, had an undistinguished turn at bat after New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl.

The all-rounder lasted 22 balls and was gone for 12 while the foundation of the England innings was laid by Root, with 71 off 75 deliveries and Buttler who belted 79 off 65 before he was run out off the penultimate ball.

England were looking at a score of more than 300 until tight New Zealand bowling restricted them to just 31 runs between the 42nd and 48th overs.

New Zealand were immediately in trouble at the start of their chase when Colin Munro belted a six off the second ball he faced and was gone two balls later without adding to his score.

Kane Williamson only managed eight off 23 balls and Martin Guptill went for 13.

Stokes, discarded by England for five months after a nightclub incident, had an economical four-overs in his first bowling spell that only cost 15 runs.

When he was recalled with Taylor and Latham in full flight and New Zealand 187 for three, he went for 11 in his first over before having Latham caught by Root at mid-on.

India 206 for 2 (Kohli 129*, Rahane 34*) beat South Africa 204 (Zondo 54, Thakur 4-52) by eight wickets

Confidence and form are two of the most influential factors in batting. They often dictate timing and placement – requisites for scoring runs. South Africa have lacked both after their sub-par performances this series. Therefore, in good batting conditions in Centurion, South Africa’s batsmen grappled with their own lack of confidence and India’s disciplined bowling, resulting in another mediocre total. Shardul Thakur, playing his first match of the series, led another clinical display from India with figures of 4 for 52 as South Africa were bowled out for 204.

On the other end of that form spectrum lies Virat Kohli. With 429 runs in five games prior to the final ODI, Kohli was oozing confidence. Against a jaded bowling attack, and with all that belief, his 35th ODI hundred was almost a formality. It helped India coast to an eight-wicket win, and take the six-match series 5-1. Kohli finished with 558 runs in six matches, the most by a batsman in a bilateral series.

Just like in the second ODI at the same venue, South Africa began cautiously to suss out conditions early. What their openers, Hashim Amla and Aiden Markram, found was a surface that was sluggish, with strokes on the up taking the inside and outside halves of the bat. In the thin air of the Highveld and under some pressure, Amla saw an opportunity to hit Thakur over fine leg for six in the seventh over. His attempt to pull, from bottom to top to get underneath the ball, cost him a fraction of a second, and he could only strangle a leg-side delivery to the keeper.

Markram played some fluent strokes, including a well-timed six over square leg, but like in Port Elizabeth he was caught in the circle trying to force the pace. He was caught, looking to clear cover, a shot that was preceded by two languid drives off overpitched deliveries that found the same fielder.

South Africa’s best period of batting followed, with AB de Villiers and Khaya Zondo attacking India’s wristspinners. In the 18th over, de Villiers hit Kuldeep for three successive fours – a drive through point, an inside-edge just past the stumps, and a reverse sweep. Zondo pulled Yuzvendra Chahal for two sixes over midwicket in the next over. They had added 62 off 65 balls before de Villiers missed a straight, flat delivery, trying to cut.

Zondo and Heinrich Klaasen, after the loss of South Africa’s best ODI batsman and with a fragile middle order to follow, were overly cautious, accumulating 30 in 58 balls. Klaasen then drilled a slower delivery to short cover. Farhaan Behardien, playing his first match of the series, holed out to third man in the next over. Zondo’s spirited fight ended when he chipped Chahal to sweeper cover, for 54. South Africa’s score hadn’t progressed much since de Villiers’ dismissal and their momentum had been sucked out.

Andile Phehlukwayo and Morne Morkel pleased the sparse Centurion crowd with an exciting 36-run partnership, the second-highest of the innings. Then Morkel scythed a cut to sweeper cover, and Imran Tahir and Phehlukwayo were caught off slower balls. Even though they did reasonably well against the wristspinners – scoring 89 runs for three wickets off 20 overs – South Africa fell well below the target they must have aimed at, ending up with 19 unutilised deliveries.

Fresh off a match-winning hundred, Rohit Sharma began the chase with a few exquisite cuts behind and in front of point. South Africa’s short-ball ploy worked as he gloved a bouncer from Lungi Ngidi to the keeper. They persisted with that length thereafter which, on a slow pitch, was always fraught with risk.

Kohli pounced on that length. With attacking fields and the short deliveries sitting up, Kohli laid into cross-batted strokes on either side of the pitch. He blazed away to 38 off 25. Dhawan, on the other hand, struggling for timing, was 14 off 30. Dhawan’s 34 ball struggle ended when he nailed a cut to backward point, for 18, South Africa’s last moment of respite in an effortless chase.

Kohli and Rahane added an unbeaten 129 off just 117 balls. Rahane contributed 34 off 50 balls, playing adeptly around the belligerence of Kohli. In stark contrast to his usual mode of operation in ODIs, Kohli’s ton was filled with boundaries: 19 fours and two sixes, making up 68.21% of his runs. The trouble he faced in mustering all those runs, though, was nearly zero.
