As the last day without a morning session, day seven kick-started with the javelin throw qualifications, which saw Grenada’s defending world champion Anderson Peters throw 89.91m – a mark that would have been enough to win all but four world javelin titles.

The 200m finals gifted us with a show impossible to forget. The women’s event saw Shericka Jackson lead a Jamaican 1-2 in a championship record of 21.45 – the second-fastest time in history – as 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce claimed silver and Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith got bronze.

Then there was a USA sweep in the men’s 200m, with Noah Lyles obliterating the field to take home gold in a national record of 19.31, followed by his teammates Kenneth Bednarek and 18-year-old Erriyon Knighton.

One medal for Letesenbet Gidey doesn’t seem to be enough. The Ethiopian athlete, who was just crowned 10,000m world champion, is out for more and leads the women’s 5000m qualification. USA’s Michael Norman comes out on top in the men’s 400m semifinals while the semifinals of both the women’s 400m and 400m hurdles confirm that we will not be able to stay in our seats during the finals, with such incredible fields!
