Arsenal overcame David Luiz’s dismissal against his old club to twice come from behind against Chelsea in an eventful London derby.

The Gunners looked beaten when Jorginho fired Chelsea ahead from the penalty spot after Luiz was shown a straight red card for bundling over Tammy Abraham.

The Chelsea forward had pounced on a terrible backpass by Shkodran Mustafi and rounded keeper Bernd Leno when he was shoved over by Brazil defender Luiz.

Chelsea were dominant for long periods but failed to kill the game off and were punished when N’Golo Kante slipped inside the centre circle allowing 18-year-old Martinelli to gallop free and produce an excellent finish, the Brazilian’s 10th league and cup goal of the season.

It was Arsenal’s first shot on target and came after a Chelsea corner which was cleared by Mustafi, the German atoning for his earlier error.

Chelsea thought they had won it when skipper Cesar Azpilicueta scored from six yards six minutes from time but spirited Arsenal earned a point through captain Hector Bellerin – making his first appearance since 5 December.
Arsenal have won just one of their last eight Premier League games and face the prospect of finishing outside the top six for the first time since 1994-95.

Mikel Arteta remains without an away win since taking charge in December yet they played better with 10 men and their gutsy second-half performance was sprinkled with positives.

Luiz, who has given away three penalties in the Premier League this season – more than any other player – was left with little choice after Mustafi’s under-hit pass let in Abraham who looked certain to score after going around Leno.

Yet Mustafi made up for his error with the clearance which allowed Martinelli to burst forward, after Kante’s slip, and produce a clinical finish under Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea looked like they had secured a first top-flight double over their London neighbours in four years when Azpilicueta restored their lead in the closing minutes but Arteta’s side were not done.

Having dropped 13 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, they showed a determination that has been missing too often as Bellerin rifled in an equaliser to seal Arsenal’s fourth successive away league draw.

This result will feel like a defeat for Frank Lampard and his Chelsea players.

Even before Luiz’s dismissal and Jorginho’s goal from the spot, the Blues dominated and should have been ahead after a hesitant start by the Gunners.

Having lost to a 93rd-minute goal at Newcastle on Saturday, Chelsea came flying out of the blocks.

Andreas Christensen headed wide from a corner when the Denmark defender should have done better while Abraham was six yards out when he headed another chance straight at Leno.

Callum Hudson-Odoi hit the top of the bar with a looping cross before Chelsea – who forced 17 corners and peppered Arsenal’s goal with 19 shots – eventually took the lead.

Yet Chelsea have managed just three clean sheets in the last 15 league and cup games and their defensive problems resurfaced as they failed to win for the seventh time in the league at Stamford Bridge this season.

On a disappointing night for the hosts, Abraham had to be helped off the pitch at full-time after colliding with an advertising board.

MADRID  – A disallowed Luis Suarez goal summed up a frustrating afternoon for Barcelona as the leaders of La Liga dropped points for the second week running after a 0-0 stalemate with Getafe on Sunday.

After needing a late equaliser to grab a point in the Catalan derby at Espanyol last weekend, Barca could not break down a well-organised Getafe side, who showed why they have the third-best defensive record in the league.

In irresistible form in front of goal in 2018, Suarez had the ball in the net just before half-time with a great finish from a Lionel Messi free-kick, but the home celebrations were cut short by the offside flag.

The Uruguayan striker then saw his header kept out by a brilliant Vicente Guaita save as the match moved into stoppage time, with Barca failing to score at home in La Liga for the first time since November 2016.

Ernesto Valverde s side remain unbeaten in La Liga after 23 games, extending their longest run without losing from the start of a campaign.

However, they are now only seven points clear at the summit from Atletico Madrid, who won 1-0 at Malaga on Saturday with an early Antoine Griezmann goal. The Rojiblancos visit the Camp Nou in three weeks.

“We don t like to draw at home, but that s football. Our opponents defended really well and we were unable to score,” Valverde told beIN Sports.

“Maybe we lacked a bit of spark, that s possible. It is strange for us not to score here at our stadium.”

With Samuel Umtiti banned, Thomas Vermaelen not fit and Gerard Pique only on the bench, Valverde handed a first start to January signing Yerry Mina and partnered him in central defence with Lucas Digne.

That pair were rarely overly troubled, but at the other end Valverde s decision to bring both Paco Alcacer and Philippe Coutinho into the line-up did not have the desired impact.

They both lasted just over an hour, with Coutinho forcing a fine save from Guaita from a curling strike in the 58th minute.

Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembele came on in the second half for his first appearance since his latest spell on the sidelines, but the young France forward was also incapable of breaking down the Getafe back line.

Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini came on towards the end to make his debut for Getafe, who are 10th.

Valencia reclaimed third place from Real Madrid thanks to a 3-1 win over city rivals Levante at Mestalla on Sunday night.

Santi Mina s early opener was cancelled out by Sergio Postigo for the struggling visitors, but Luciano Vietto put Valencia back in front in the second half and Dani Parejo sealed the win with a late penalty.

The result ended a run of six straight defeats in all competitions for Valencia.

Madrid won 5-2 at home to Real Sociedad on Saturday as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick for the first time this season.

The reigning champions are still 17 points adrift of Barcelona, albeit with a game in hand.

Sergio Rico was the hero for Sevilla with a penalty save and several key interventions as his side boosted their European hopes with a 1-0 win over Girona.

The only goal of the game at a sunny Sanchez Pizjuan was scored just over 30 seconds into the second half, with Pablo Sarabia making sure the ball went in after a Joaquin Correa effort was stopped on the line.

But, before that, Rico had intervened to prevent the home side going behind just prior to the interval, diving to his right to save an Aday Benitez penalty awarded for a handball by Luis Muriel.

Sevilla, who will face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final in April and host Manchester United in the Champions League on February 21, are sixth in La Liga.
