LAHORE: Pakistan’s veteran tennis stars Rashid Malik and Waqar Nisar received a heroes’ welcome on their return from Khao Lak, Thailand, following their outstanding performances at the ITF World Masters Tour MT200 Tournament, where they proudly represented the country on the international stage.

Rashid Malik delivered a remarkable campaign, emerging as the most successful Pakistani player at the event by clinching an impressive three titles. He secured two singles crowns in the 60+ category and added a mixed doubles title in the 45+ category, showcasing his exceptional class, consistency and competitive spirit. Waqar Nisar also made his mark with a series of spirited performances, reaching the finals in two events and finishing as runner-up after closely fought encounters against strong international opponents. Expressing his delight upon returning home, Rashid Malik highlighted the pride of competing for the country. “Winning three titles at an ITF event is always special, but doing so while representing Pakistan makes it even more meaningful. LAHORE: Pakistan’s top-ranked ITF senior tennis player Rashid Ahmad Malik, partnering Germany’s Maike Klein, continued his fine run on the international stage by advancing to the mixed doubles 45+ final of the Robinson Khao Lak Tennis ITF World Masters Tour MT200.

The Pak-German duo produced a dominant display in the semifinals, overwhelming Norway’s Per Ivar Wahl and Germany’s Julia Reisner in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Malik and Klein controlled the match from start to finish, using sharp net play, precision serving and superior court coverage to deny their opponents any momentum.

Their commanding victory came against rivals nearly 20 years younger, underlining Malik’s experience and competitive excellence at the senior level.

Malik, sponsored by The Bank of Punjab, is competing in the mixed doubles 45+ category for the first time and is now within touching distance of securing his maiden title in this format.

Reflecting on his performance, Malik said he was delighted to reach the final on debut and is keen to maintain the same intensity in the title match, while also keeping a close focus on his singles campaign.

Maike Klein of Germany’s consistent and aggressive play proved crucial as the pair conceded just two games across the entire match. In the Men’s Singles 60+ category, Rashid Malik produced a commanding performance to storm into the finals, defeating second seed Helman Sitohang of Singapore in straight sets. Malik dominated the contest with his experience and consistency, sealing a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory to book his place in the championship match.

Meanwhile, Waqar Nisar concluded his campaign as runner-up after a valiant effort in the final against Italy’s Ermanno Carmeline, who currently holds an ITF world ranking of 25.

Battling against a highly ranked opponent and the scorching Khao Lak heat, Waqar fought hard in a gruelling encounter that lasted one hour and 45 minutes before going down 2-6, 1-6. Despite the loss, Waqar’s run to the final reflected his determination, fitness and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.

LAHORE: Pakistan’s senior tennis players, sponsored by The Bank of Punjab (BOP), produce remarkable performances at the ITF World Masters Tour MT200 Tournament held from December 6–12 on the hard courts of Robinson Hotel Khao Lak, Thailand.

Competing against players from Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Iran, Singapore, Norway, Russia, India, Ukraine, Hong Kong, USA, New Zealand, and France, the Pakistani seniors shone in multiple categories, securing four titles across four events and finishing runners-up in two, marking one of their strongest international outings to date.

Former Davis Cup star Rashid Ahmed Malik once again proved his mastery of the game. Demonstrating powerful baseline strokes and tactical precision, he dominated his category to capture the 60+ singles title. He also continued his unbeaten winning streak at the ITF Masters. He is now keen to continue this streak and also represent the country in ITF World Master Championship Finals and win the title at this prestigious event.

With outstanding athleticism and mental resilience, another promising Pakistani senior player Khurram Imtiaz overcame tough international opponents to clinch the 55+ singles crown, adding another major international win to his name, his second ITF singles title.

Waqar Nisar displayed exceptional consistency and endurance throughout the tournament. His deep run and strong competitive spirit earned him a well-deserved runner-up position in the 70+ singles category.

The pair of Khurram Imtiaz and Furqan Uddin Khan (Mongol) delivered a commanding performance in doubles. Their aggressive net play, seamless coordination, and strong court coverage secured the 55+ doubles title, reinforcing Pakistan’s rising strength in senior doubles tennis.

Furqan Uddin Khan fought valiantly throughout the event. In a gripping semifinal, he overcame Germany’s Henning Hartmann 4–6, 7–6(3), 12–10. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury forced him to concede the final via walkover, finishing as the runner-up.

All the four Paksitani senior players extended heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Zafar Masud, President & CEO of The Bank of Punjab, for his steadfast support and commitment to promoting senior athletes.
