The softball gold medal game between USA and Japan drew the highest attendance of The World Games 2022. According to International World Games Association (IWGA), more than 10,000 spectators flocked to Hoover Met Stadium in Hoover, Alabama, to witness USA’s 3-2 victory over Japan that kept the gold medal and world title on home soil. “The Met was ELECTRIC. I will never forget last night,” MVP Haylie McCleney posted on Twitter.

The WBSC presented USA Softball legendary pitcher Monica Abbott with the WBSC’s Order of the Golden Diamond Award at the World Games 2022. “To be recognised worldwide for being able to have an impact — not only on young girls, but also other countries, pros, and people that are now at the prime of their career — it really means a lot to me,” Abbott said.

On the other news, the Puerto Rican Baseball Federation has named Eduardo Perez as the general manager of the National Team. Perez is being tasked with putting together the best Puerto Rican team possible to compete in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

The latest episode of the WBSC’s Global Game podcast offers a new perspective on the inaugural Baseball5 African Championship and the development of the five-on-five version of baseball/softball in Africa. “Baseball5 players come mainly from baseball and softball clubs,” said Susan Wanjiiku Mwangi, the Kenyan Baseball5 National Team manager. “We started introducing Baseball5 to U-12 children in schools, and so we are reaching through Baseball5 also kids who have no knowledge of baseball or softball”.

The Chile Baseball Softball Federation celebrated the first-ever game played in the country, which took place 105 years ago. Chile will host the 2023 Pan American Games and targets the event as a potential milestone in baseball and softball development.

Media registration is now open for the VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup, scheduled from 29 July to 7 August in Tainan, Taiwan. The registration deadline is Friday, 22 July. All members of the media, both local/national and international, who plan to cover the U-12 Baseball World Cup must apply for accreditation through the official WBSC Media Accreditation online platform.

And Venezuela (FEVEBEIS) will host the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier in La Guaira from 12 to 21 August. The top four finishers will advance to next year’s World Cup group stage.

West Indies unveil new T20I shirt as cricket makes return to Windsor Park

ROSEAU, Dominica – International cricket made a spectacular return to Dominica on Saturday, with home team West Indies ready to entertain their fans in the first T20 International (T20I) against Bangladesh at the picturesque Windsor Park.

As part of the celebrations marking the first international cricket at the refurbished stadium following the severe damage inflicted by Hurricane Maria in 2017, West Indies are wearing their new 2022-2023 T20I team shirt for the first time. West Indies fans in Dominica have been building up to the return of international cricket, revelling in the return of the game to the Nature Isle with a carnival-like in the build-up to the match.

The new shirt, designed by West Indies official team apparel partner Castore, features a modern graphic design and the iconic maroon and gold team colours. It will be worn by the West Indies Men’s team for all the T20I matches building up to and during the ICC T20I World Cup. This includes the current T20I Series against Bangladesh, followed by the home T20I Series against India and New Zealand in July and August. The new shirt design will also feature for the West Indies Women’s forthcoming T20Is and for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled for South Africa in 2023.

The new shirt will go sale on the Castore website – https://castore.com/collections/west-indies – ahead of the first T20I between West Indies and India in Trinidad on 22 July as well as at selected retailers including FanZone in Trinidad. Castore’s partnership with Cricket West Indies ensures that West Indies teams have the most advanced fabrics to allow for high performance, extreme athletic movement and rapid wicking of moisture particularly in hot conditions.

Captain Nicholas Pooran wore the new T20I shirt for the first time in Friday’s captain’s media call ahead of the T20I Series between West Indies and Bangladesh.

BRB Group to support PCB Pathway Cricket Programme

The BRB Group will sponsor 100 contracts for junior cricketers that will be awarded under the PCB Pathway Cricket Programme. Alongside the financial support, the PCB will invest in personality development and grooming of these youngsters. The focus will be on providing quality education whilst also upskilling cricketing talent. These 100 players will be earning monthly retainers of PKR 30,000 each.

Scholarships will also be provided to these players in top schools and college/universities. Technical education on the side-lines of a comprehensive cricket skill acquisition plan will also be delivered as a part of the programme.

Chairman PCB Ramiz Raja: “We want to thank the BRB Group for their support for the PCB Pathway Cricket Programme that will shape the future of Pakistan cricket. I have personally taken great interest in the project and it remains very close to my heart.

“One of our major objectives is to invest in pathway cricket to ensure our future cricketers get the best possible training, grooming, education and financial support. I am delighted with the progress we have made in a short span of time. We have identified talented players who are in their early to late teens and are the future of Pakistan cricket, we will now fully focus on the development of their cricket, education and basic life skills.

“The investment that we are making on grassroots is unprecedented, and I am confident that these steps will change the landscape of the game in the country for the future generations.”
