The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued the following statement / clarification in response to various media reports, published on Friday, 12 August 2022:

1-       The Daily Express, along with its cricket website, Cricket Pakistan, have reported new penalties for breaches have been incorporated in the 2022-23 central contracts.

This is factually incorrect. The Penalties for Breaches have been part of the Central Contracts since 2007. The only new addition to the 2022-23 Penalties for Breaches section is related to Covid-19.

Contrary to the claim that “Multiple clauses of heavy fines and bans are in the 2022/23 central contracts of men’s cricketers, some of which have been objected to by the senior players,” the PCB clarifies there was no discussion on this matter between the board and the players.

Unfortunately, the media outlet published the story without checking facts with the PCB and tried to give an impression that these had been incorporated for the first time in 2022-23 contracts.

2-      The Dawn newspaper reported Shan Masood “refused to be a part of the Pakistan Shaheens team which played a practice match against the national side before its tour to the Netherlands”.

The fact is that the Shaheens’ squad was announced a day after the national squad for the Netherlands and UAE tours was named. After missing out on selection on 3 August, Shan, with the consent of the PCB, had returned to Derbyshire to fulfil his contractual obligations with the English county. This was in line with the NOC, which the PCB had issued to Shan for the entire English county cricket season.

Unfortunately, a prestigious national daily sought no clarification from the PCB before printing the story that brought into disrepute the reputation of Shan Masood.

The series will be branded as the Goldmedal T20 Cup with the first match scheduled to be played on Friday, 29 July 2022.

Trinidad and St. Kitts will host the first three T20I matches of the series while the last two will be played in Florida, USA.

Johnny Grave, CEO of Cricket West Indies, said: “Goldmedal’s new title sponsorship of the Goldmedal T20 Series is very welcome, especially as a new partner for cricket. The West Indies vs India Series is going to see two of the most exciting teams in the world go head-to-head in the Caribbean and Florida, watched by a global audience.”

This will be Goldmedal’s first title sponsorship of a major cricket series. Goldmedal was also the official ‘Powered By sponsor’ of the current CG United Series ODI series between the two teams, which India are leading 2-0 after two thrilling games. They were also the official ‘Power Partner’ of the India-Ireland T20 series held in June end.

The matches will begin at 10:30am local time/9:30am Jamaica/8pm IST and will be telecast live on Fancode and DD Sports in India and ESPN Caribbean in the West Indies.

The Test ended in a draw with Babar scoring a monumental 196 in the second innings to lead his side to a draw. Mohammad Rizwan scored an unbeaten 104 while Abdullah Shafique contributed 96.

Pakistan were 443 for seven in their second innings when stumps were drawn with two balls left in the final over of the match.

The three-match series is drawn at 0-0 with the decider to be played in Lahore from Monday 21 March.

Opener Abdullah Shafique held an online press conference following the fourth day’s play in the second Benaud-Qadir Trophy, ICC World Test Championship match against Australia at the National Stadium, Karachi today (Tuesday).

At stumps on the fourth day of the Test, Pakistan were 192 for two in their second innings.

The hosts need another 314 runs to win on the final day of the Test tomorrow.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq who scored his maiden Test hundred today on the first day of the Benaud-Qadir Trophy ICC World Test Championship match against Australia at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium held a post-match virtual press conference at the end of the day’s play.

Imam will resume his innings on Saturday at 132 not out, Pakistan ended the day at 245 for one.
