Uncertainty Grips Bangladesh:

Captain Litton Das says responding to World Cup participation is ‘dangerous’

By Nawaz Gohar ;  In a startling admission that reflects the growing tension in South Asian cricket, Bangladesh captain Litton Das has avoided questions regarding his team’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, stating that answering such queries has become “dangerous” for him.

Speaking to the media following a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fixture, the star batter was asked about the team’s preparations and the nature of the pitches for the mega-event. Das responded by indirectly hinting at a potential boycott.

“Are you certain that we are going to play the World Cup?” Das questioned the reporter. “Personally, I am in a state of uncertainty, and so is everyone else. At this moment, all of Bangladesh is gripped by this ambiguity. I understand what you are trying to ask, but it is not safe for me to provide an answer, so I will remain silent.”

The BCB-ICC Deadlock The stalemate between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) remains unresolved. Citing severe security concerns, the BCB has requested the ICC to shift its matches from India to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC has yet to concede to this demand despite multiple high-level meetings.

Line Adding weight to the defiance, Bangladesh’s Sports Advisor, Asif Nazrul Islam, adopted a blunt stance, asserting that the national team will not travel to India under any circumstances, regardless of the ICC’s deadlines.

“If the ICC attempts to impose illogical conditions on us under the pressure of the Indian Board (BCCI), we will not accept them,” Islam stated. He noted that while he is aware that Scotland could replace Bangladesh in the 20-team tournament based on rankings, he has received no formal notification regarding a substitution.

He further drew parallels to past events, stating, “There are precedents where Pakistan refused to travel to India and the ICC changed the venue. We have made a logical demand for a venue shift and cannot be coerced into playing in India under irrational pressure.”

The ICC has set a formal deadline of January 21 (today) for the BCB to provide a final decision on its participation. Despite the looming cutoff, the situation remains at a complete standstill, leaving the tournament’s schedule in jeopardy.
