USA, Venezuela to meet in Sunday’s Final, and Saturday to determine home team

TAINAN, Taiwan — USA defeated Chinese Taipei, 8-6, in dramatic fashion and earned the right to play in Sunday’s World Championship Game. The United States are 4-0 after the second day of the VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup Super Round and clinched their spot in Sunday’s World Championship Game.
USA’s win also put Venezuela in the Final after Venezuela had earlier outhit, 13-8, and outslugged, 3 homers to 1, the Dominican Republic to earn a 12-5 win that secured for them a a spot in the top-two of the Super Round Standings.
USA and Venezuela will play Saturday to determine who will be the home team in Sunday’s final game. It’s the first time Venezuela will play in the Final, while the US has won the WBSC U-12 World Title three times (2013, 2015 and 2017).
In the first game of the day, Korea played well behind brilliant starter Woochan Jung to defeat Mexico, 4-1, and claim the Asian nation’s first Super Round win. The right-hander pitched five masterful innings, striking out 10, and hit a solo home run.
Chinese Taipei (2-2), Korea (1-3), Dominican Republic (1-3) and Mexico (1-3) will battle on Saturday for a spot in the Bronze Medal Game.
In Placement Round action, Japan confirmed a seventh place finish at the VI U-12 Baseball World Cup following a convincing 14-0 shutout win over South Africa.
Panama claimed their third win of the tournament by beating Czechia, and will finish the tournament in eighth place.
