In the fifth and first match of the World Cup, India defeated Australia by 6 wickets.

 

In the match played in Chennai, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first and were bowled out for 199 runs in 49.3 overs. In pursuit of an easy target of 200 runs, India’s opening 3 players, including captain Rohit Sharma, were bowled out for just 2 runs. Returning to the pavilion, the Kangaroos bowlers dismissed these three players for zero.

It seemed that Australia would continue to strengthen their grip on the match but Virat Kohli and KL Rahul put on a partnership of 165 runs for the fourth wicket and paved the way for India’s sure victory.

Virat Kohli returned to the pavilion on 167 runs after playing an innings of 85 runs, he hit 6 fours during this responsible innings. After which KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya completed the rest of the runs, KL Rahul 97 runs while Hardik Pandya 11 runs. But remained undefeated.

Australia’s Hazlewood took 3 wickets while Mitchell Starc took 1 wicket.

Earlier in the big match of the event, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first.

Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bahmara sent the Australian batsmen to the pavilion for 199 runs in 49.3 overs.

Apart from Steve Smith 46, David Warner 41, Mitchell Starc 28 and Marnus Lebouchen 27, none of the batsmen from Australia could show a good performance.

In the match, the Australian team is led by Pat Cummins and the Indian team is led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain bowled 6 balls against Australia and managed to take all the wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja took 3, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bahmara took 2 and 2 wickets respectively while Mohammad Siraj, Ashwin and Hardik Pandya took 1 wicket each.

Earlier, speaking after the toss, Rohit Sharma said that the conditions here are looking favorable for the bowlers, Shubman Gill’s condition has not improved so Ishan Kishan has been included in the team.

On this occasion Pat Cummins said that our team is balanced, we are fresh and in a good position.

It should be noted that this was the first match of both the teams in this World Cup while the rest of the teams have played one match each.
