PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Sports Directorate has come under fire for its alleged lack of transparency regarding player selection and fee structure at the Muazullah Khan Cricket Academy, the province’s only official cricket academy.

Despite a two-month wait, the Directorate has not provided a list of players enrolled in the academy, raising concerns about potential favoritism. It is estimated that over 400 players train there, with more than half receiving free training.

Reports suggest these fee exemptions are granted based on connections with Directorate officials, allowing beneficiaries to receive extended training hours while paying players face limited time slots. The standard fee of three rupees reportedly offers minimal training time, leaving many underprivileged children unable to afford proper training.

Further muddying the waters, players from private clubs are also allegedly practicing at the academy, some even being touted as potential international players despite unclear training backgrounds. While former DG Sports Junaid Khan previously implemented a commendable policy of free training for high-potential players, concerns now lie with the alleged exploitation of this policy for personal gain.

The Provincial Sports Directorate’s silence on the list of free trainees is fueling suspicion of favoritism and a lack of transparency in academy operations.
