Peshawar Sports Complex Faces Criticism for Inaction on Three Violent Incidents
Peshawar… Over the course of a month, three significant incidents of violence have occurred within Peshawar Sports Complex. Two athletes were subjected to torture in two separate incidents, while a sports journalist covering the events was also attacked in front of onlookers.
Despite all these incidents taking place within the complex, the administration of Peshawar Sports Complex has not shown any proactive response. No inquiry committee has been formed by the provincial sports directorate, and they have not yet provided any reports to the police regarding these incidents. The lack of action has raised concerns among those involved in sports, as the perpetrators managed to escape without any consequences, even with the presence of sports directorate personnel.
Even after the incident involving the sports reporter on June 20, the provincial sports directorate failed to equip the gate’s watchmen with appropriate resources, nor did they investigate how the attackers were able to escape while the watchmen were present. Furthermore, they neglected to address the alarming situation of individuals with covered faces standing in front of a government office, holding weapons. The pending inquiry further adds to the frustration and dismay surrounding these incidents.
