Abubakar/Nael upset top seeds Aisam/Muzammil to reach doubles final at National Ranking Tennis

ISLAMABAD (Sports Link) ; Rising tennis talents Abubakar Talha and Nael Qureshi produced a sensational performance to stun the top-seeded duo of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Muzammil Murtaza in the men’s doubles semifinals of the 11th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championships 2025, currently underway at the PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad.

In a thrilling and closely contested semifinal, Abubakar and Nael displayed remarkable composure and skill to outplay the experienced pair 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 in a super tie-break finish.

The match kept spectators on the edge of their seats, as the young duo matched the former Davis Cup stars shot for shot before sealing a memorable victory. In the second men’s doubles semifinal, Yousaf Khalil and Barker Ullah booked their place in the final after defeating Muhammad Shoaib and Hamza Roman in the super tie-break, 7-5 ,6-4, 10 -6.

Action continued in the men’s singles quarterfinals, where Yousaf Khalil dominated Barkatullah 6-0, 7-6(5). Muhammad Shoaib advanced with a solid 6-3, 6-2 win over Ahmad Nael Qureshi, while Muzammil Murtaza overcame Abubakar Talha in a three-set encounter,

winning 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Veteran Aqeel Khan also progressed after defeating Nadir Mirza 6-4, 6-4. In the ladies’ singles semifinals, Mahin Aftab Qureshi defeated Amna Ali Qayum 6-2, 6-3, while Soha Ali secured her final berth with a convincing 7-5, 6-2 victory over Sheeza Sajid.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ U18 quarterfinals, Ahtesham Humayun edged past Zohaib Afzal Malik 7-6(1), 6-3, Hamza Roman cruised past Muhammad Yahya 6-1, 6-0, Hassan Usmani defeated Haziq Aasim 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, and Abubakar Talha advanced with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win over Abdul Basit.

In the boys’ U14 quarterfinals, Muhammad Junaid, Ohade Mustafa, M Ibraheem Gill, and M Muaz registered victories over their respective opponents to move into the next round.

The girls’ U14 semifinals saw Khadija Khalil defeat Anaya Khan 4-2, 4-0, while Aimen Rehan overcame Eman Shahbaz 4-1, 4-0. In the boys’ U12 quarterfinals, M Ayan, Behroze Mamoon, Majid Ali, and M Danyal advanced after impressive performances.
