Green’s gesture re-ignites debate over Usman Tariq’s bowling action
By Nawaz Gohar ; The bowling action of Pakistani spinner Usman Tariq has once again become the center of attention after Australian batter Cameron Green appeared to gesture “chucking” against him during the second T20 match.
The moment occurred right after Green was caught out by Shadab Khan off Usman Tariq’s delivery. Cameron Green, who scored 35 runs in the match, was captured by broadcast cameras making a specific hand gesture as he walked back to the pavilion. Social media users have interpreted this gesture as an allegation of an illegal bowling action, sparking a fresh wave of debate within cricketing circles.
This is not the first time Usman Tariq’s action has come under scrutiny. He was previously reported for a suspect bowling action during both PSL 9 and PSL 10. However, on both occasions, Tariq underwent official testing at a PCB-approved biomechanics lab, where his action was declared completely legal.
Addressing the matter previously, Usman Tariq stated that his bowling remains within the ICC’s mandated 15-degree elbow extension limit. According to him, the natural structure of his elbow does not allow it to straighten completely, which sometimes creates a misconception at the point of release.
Usman Tariq clarified that in the face of “chucking” allegations, the best course of action is laboratory testing, and improvements should be made to the action if necessary. He added that he has already cleared official tests in Pakistan twice without being required to make any modifications.
