Dr. Naeem Rauf elected President of Chess Association of Punjab in transparent election

By Nawaz Gohar ;  The new Executive Council of the Chess Association of Punjab (CAP) for the 2026–2030 term has been announced.

According to the Association’s spokesperson, the elections were conducted transparently and in accordance with constitutional procedures under the supervision of the Sports Board Punjab, with a majority of the General Body members participating.

Dr. Naeem Rauf, hailing from Lahore, has been elected as President. He is a veteran national-level administrator with expertise in chess management. Inamullah Awan from Gujranwala, who holds a high-ranking position in a government department, will serve as the Senior Vice President.

The Association has appointed four Vice Presidents: Professor Tahir Raza Abid (Vehari), Sheikh Abuzar (Bahawalpur), Malik Shahbaz Babar (Muzaffargarh), and Dr. Ejaz Asghar (Sheikhupura).

Raja Gohar Iqbal (Rawalpindi), who has organized over 1,700 chess tournaments in previous years, has been re-elected as the General Secretary. Ihsan-ul-Haq (Gujrat) will serve as the Finance Secretary, while Sheraz Adil (Sheikhupura) and Shahid Lohi (Multan) have been elected as Joint Secretary and Press Secretary, respectively.

Bushra Saleem has been nominated as the women’s representative. Along with the President and General Secretary, she will represent the Association in the General Body of the Chess Federation of Pakistan.

According to the spokesperson, the new Executive Council will play a pivotal role in strengthening district-level chess associations, increasing participation among youth and women, and elevating the standard of chess tournaments across Punjab.
