Peshawar Award Ceremony honoring sports journalists set for June 9
By Nawaz Gohar ; A prestigious award ceremony honoring the province’s sports journalists will be held on June 9 at a local hotel in Peshawar. The ceremony is being conducted under the auspices of the Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (SWAKP), in collaboration with the District Administration Peshawar and the Regional Sports Office.
During the ceremony, senior sports journalists who have rendered outstanding services in promoting sports, encouraging athletes, and the field of sports journalism will be honored with awards, appreciation certificates, and commemorative shields.
Speaking about the event, Asim Shiraz, President of the Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stated that the primary objective of this award ceremony is to recognize the services of sports journalists, encourage them, and promote positive and constructive journalism in the field of sports.
He said that sports journalists play a pivotal role in highlighting sports activities, bringing young talent to the forefront, and conveying sports-related issues to the relevant institutions. Therefore, paying tribute to their services is an important need of the hour.
He added that for the past 45 years, the Sports Writers Association has been playing a robust role in promoting sports, encouraging athletes, highlighting a positive image of sports, and protecting the rights of sports journalists in the province.
The award ceremony is a continuation of these efforts, through which the services of senior journalists will be appreciated, and young sports journalists will be inspired toward high-quality journalism.
Asim Shiraz informed that the Advisor to the Chief Minister KP on Sports, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, will attend the event as the chief guest, while prominent personalities from sports, journalism, and social sectors will also participate.
On this occasion, prizes will also be distributed among the winning players who showed outstanding performance in various competitions of the three-day sports festival held among sports journalists.
He expressed hope that such events will not only boost the morale of sports journalists but will also play an important role in promoting sports in the province, strengthening positive journalism, and attracting the younger generation toward sports activities.
