Federal government appoints Yawar Hussain as New DG PSB

By Nawaz Gohar ; The Federal Government has appointed Yawar Hussain, a Grade-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), as the new Director General (DG) of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

Prior to this appointment, the additional charge of DG PSB was held by Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, following the departure of the former chief, Yasir Pirzada. The newly appointed DG, Yawar Hussain, brings diversified administrative experience to the role, having previously served as the Director General of Immigration and Passports.

Hailing from Jhang, the Grade-20 officer has also served extensively in Balochistan and previously held the position of Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Interior.

According to the official notification issued by the Establishment Division, Hussain was currently serving under the Government of Punjab. His services have now been transferred to the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Division, placing him at the helm of the country’s apex sports regulatory body.

“The appointment is on a deputation basis under standard terms and conditions, effective immediately, and shall remain in force until further orders,” the Establishment Division’s notification stated.

The notification has been formally dispatched to the relevant federal and provincial departments, and the newly appointed Director General has been directed to submit his charge assumption report upon taking office.

The Pakistan Sports Board, operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, is the premier national institution responsible for the promotion of sports, regulation of national sports federations, and implementation of the national sports policy.

Hussain’s appointment is being viewed as a significant development within the country’s sports administrative framework. Industry observers expect that under his leadership, the PSB will play a more effective role in institutional reforms and the overarching development of sports in Pakistan.
