Arshad Nadeem finishes fifth at World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest
By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan’s star athlete and Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem missed out on a podium finish, concluding his campaign in fifth place at the prestigious World Athletics Ultimate Championship held at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest.
Competing against the world’s top eight javelin throwers, Nadeem posted a season-best mark on his third attempt but fell short of securing a place in the medal round.
Nadeem’s progression across his three attempts reflected a steady improvement, though it proved insufficient against a fierce international field:Attempt 1: Opened with a modest throw of 74.42 meters.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Julian Weber hit 85.89 meters and Grenada’s Anderson Peters launched a commanding 86.18 meters early in the contest. Attempt 2: Improved to 79.66 meters, as Trinidad & Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott consolidated his position with an 82.41-meter effort. Recorded his best attempt of the competition at 81.49 meters—marking his overall season-best—which ultimately placed him fifth.
With only the top four athletes advancing to the final round, Nadeem’s campaign concluded following his third throw. Grenada’s Anderson Peters and Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage led the elite field in a high-caliber final showdown. Despite missing out on hardware in Hungary, Nadeem remains one of the continent’s top track and field stars as he continues his multi-tournament campaign this season.
